Thank you for any help. Im so scared. I live in South Africa a country with a very high HIV rate especially amongst prostitutes. About six weeks ago I did something very stupid and illegal actually. For the first time ever I picked up a prostitute and drove with her for about 5 minutes before coming to a stop. I then locked the car and rolled up the windows as it is dangerous not to on this side of the world. She said she would do anything even without a condom. This scared me so instead I only asked for a handjob. She then performed a handjob (my penis was very dry) and then oral for about 30 seconds. She then pulled her pants down and Im not sure if she briefly fingered herself but she switched hands and continued with the handjob using both hands.

At the time I thought this was completely safe but exactly 8 days later I developed a red lump at the tip of my penis around the urethra. I rushed to several doctors and eventually I was diagnosed with Chlamydia. The doctors found this odd and said Chlamydia is usually only transferred by blood, semen and vaginal fluids. (In other words vaginal or anal sex) They said its is extremely rare to pick up Chlamydia from oral and they never seemed to believe I picked it up this way but I swear Im telling the truth. This has led me to believe their was obviously a fluid exchange and now Im so terrified that now I may have contracted HIV. I keep thinking of her (the prostitutes) hands which had long nails rings on her fingers. Im also concerned that she was with someone me and perhaps she had traces of other infectious fluid on her hands.

As crazy as it may sound I have never actually had any vaginal or anal sex in my entire life. I have had oral sex performed on me before by my ex and this was honestly the only other sexual encounter and it was over a year ago. Anyway the doctors prescribed 100mg doxycycline for 7 days with a 1gram dose of Zithromax to treat the Chlamydia. It is over 6 weeks now since the incident and the redness and lump are still there. I tested again for Chlamydia and I still have it so now im on doxycycline 100mg for 2 weeks.

The last doctor I saw was a urologist and he want to do a PCR test for HIV because he believes the risk is there although it may be low. He said in South Africa its different since this individual was such a high risk being a prostitute. He also mentioned that since the lump appeared 10 days after the incident it is obviously related.

Any feedback on my HIV risk would be greatly appreciated. Please reply soon. Im so scared to get tested.

Im aware this is an HIV specific website but do you think its possible to get Chlamydia from what I have described. I have seen 4 doctors and they tell me they have never seen it from oral although they think its possible but very rare. I have a brother who is HIV+ and he is well but when I told him about the incident he was very sad that I would take a such a risk.

You're right, this is an hiv specific website. You'll have to talk to your doctor about chlamydia.

There is absolutely no way you would get hiv from a handjob. NO WAY. Hiv simply is not transmitted in this manner.

People are not high or low or no risk, ACTIVITIES are high or low or no risk. It's not who you do, it's how you do it. The only proven sexual risks for hiv infection are unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. Getting a handjob is NO risk for hiv infection.

Here's what you need to know in order to remain hiv negative:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV OVER A HANDJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Would there not have been a risk if she had blood on her nails after fingering herself and then giving me a handjob? Also would there not have been a risk if she had blood in her mouth, a bleeding sore or even traces of semen from a previous customer? After all Im sure this is how I picked up chlamydia.

No. Her hand could have been dripping in blood and it would not have been a risk during the handjob.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.

Once outside the body, small changes in temperature and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

And no risk to all the oral related questions. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. Not one person has ever been infected with hiv through a blowjob and you won't be the first, regardless of the chlamydia.

Chlamydia is a VERY easily transmitted bacterial STI and you could have gotten it from the vaginal fluids on her hand or from the blowjob. (It is possible to have a chlamydia infection in the throat) However, hiv is transmitted differently and it is not anywhere near as easily transmitted as chlamydia. If you have further chlamydia questions, talk to a doctor. This is an hiv specific website.

I know I shouldnt be asking this but Im really struggling to move on and get tested. I feel to scared to start a relationship in case I infect my partner. I just dont have the courage. I know what I did was low risk but the fact that I picked up an STI from literally 10 seconds of be sucked is scaring me. Im not looking for sympathy or reassurance but its almost a given that this individual was positive. I gueass what I really want to know is if there was a risk with us being in a car (with windows closed) and not outside thereby allowing possible transmission through vaginal fluids that may have been on her hand?

No, it wasn't low risk. It was NO risk.

This is all about personal drama. For you getting tested is simply for your peace of mind. So you have to decide how long you are going to continue to torture yourself unnecessarily.

We are not going to participate in that process with you. If you come back again with the same non-risk scenario you are going to get a 28 day Time Out. Consider yourself warned for the last time.

HIV is not your problem as your inevitable negative result will confirm.

Hi There

I recently met a wonderful woman. I went down on her and we nearly had full intercourse but I was hesitant without protection especially since I feel that I need to be tested myself. My concern is that she rubbed a large amount of vaginal fluid on my penis head which was NOT covered with a condom. She also rubbed the head of my penis against the entrance of her vagina. Im quite sure no penetration ocurred but I am a bit concerned. Is there a risk here?

You have NOT had a risk for hiv infection. Frottage is not a risk, regardless of how much vaginal fluid is present.

Please re-read your entire thread, particularly post #3 and #6.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!
