Title: rectal pap smear question
Post by: manhattanman on August 14, 2006, 08:28:18 am
Sorry for the indelicacy of the question. I am going for a rectal pap smear on Wednesday. Is there any type of advanced prep like with a colonoscopy (or big date) ?
Should I use a Fleet enema before going to the exam or just to be sure really, really clean ?

Did the Dr. say to use an enema before? My Dr. once told me enemas could bring any exterior infection to the interior...and enemas are also thye main cause of "diverticulos". I donīt know how do you call them in English. Sorry.

When I went in for one, my doctor said that an enema (fleet) was not necessary, (and he preferred that his patients not use one as it can irritate the tissue he needs to examine).  To prepare, I had a bowel movement and used a warm-water filled enema...but even that was probably overkill.
