Probably being paranoid but..
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:31:43 pm »
With the weather changes where I live, I tend to get sunburn and chapped skin, (dry patches, etc.) always have. OOh plus I am and always have been very susceptible to mosquito bites. I can count 5 recent ones, lol.Is any of that symptomatic? Yes I know I'm probably getting weird and paranoid but I won't see my doc until the 22nd so if anyone has any info that would be cool.

I'm not clear on exactly what you're asking.  Do you mean does any of that affect HIV infection?  Not that I know of. I'm sure you already know the dangers of too much sun, or too many sunburns.  I can tell you, I'm 47 and used to lay out in the sun a lot when younger, and now have some dark spots on my face.

As far as the misquito bites, my daughter had an allergic reaction to them one time and had to take tapered doses of Cortisone.  I've never heard of negative effects with HIV because of bites, however.  Just be careful none get infected, especially if you scratch them.
I've never killed anyone, but I frequently get satisfaction reading the obituary notices.-Clarence Darrow

Hi Noob,

There are two comments within what you've written that should help you calm your concerns. Regarding weather change skin effects and mosquito bites, you note you "always have/always have been" sensitive. That's your norm apparently. Mine, too, on both counts.

Regarding mosquito bites, I read an interesting article about why they go after certain skin types (yours AND mine). It's due to our emitting cholesterol through the skin and those little creeps know from quite a distance where you are. As I've aged and post-diagnosis, when I am bitten, mine now become extremely large welts, very warm and hard to the touch -- but I've opted not to correlate it to HIV, but rather age and perhaps heightened sensitivity to their "bite".
