The most beautifull Christmas tree ......
« on: December 13, 2006, 11:30:30 am »
...well maybe not the most beautiful one I have ever had, but one that brings back great memories. Starting at about 10 years old until i went to college  I would go to my great-grandmother's on a December Saturday.  After having the best toast and honey in the world we would assemble her aluminum tree.  She had all kinds of small delicate ornaments that hung on each branch with curling ribbon.  And when all the decorations were on it was time for the grand finale, the plugging in of the wheel light.  Then we would sit and watch the tree go from red, to green, to blue, to yellow and back to red.  At that age I thought it was the tackiest thing I had ever seen, now I wish I could do it all again!

I still have my aluminum tree and color wheel from when I was a little boy (and the wheel still works, but it is real LOUD).  The cardboard box the tree came in is disintegrating, but the tree remains virtually the same as always.

Here it is, the last time I put it up, Christmas of 2002.

Alan, I have another tree that is just like yours.  The one is my pic has over 150 branches.  Each branch has its original cover, plus I have the original box and instructions.  The more I think about maybe I should toss those fond memories out and check out E-BAY!

We had one of those aluminum trees with a colour wheel too when I was a kid. It wasn't Christmas until you could hear the colour wheel going "whirrrrrrrrrclickwhirrrrrrrrrrrclickwhirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" in time to Nat King Cole roasting Jack's nuts. Or was it Jack frosting nuts? Or nipping nuts? Been a long time since I heard the song. :D

Thanks for the mini trip down memory lane, Woods!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
