New to lipo issues
« on: July 13, 2009, 02:34:24 am »
I've had lipo off and on since the mid 90's (crixivan) but am still having problems and finally interested in doing something about it.  I've got a mild buffalo hump but more annoying is the "pot belly" that I have.  It all is internal, as my ab muscles are right under the skin.  I guess this means my organs are covered in fat.  What can I do?

I'm worried about it both from a health perspective and an appearance perspective.  Any ideas?

I distrust morning people largely because I suspect them of getting together one morning and setting up the rules of civilization while the rest of us slept.

My understanding is that there is very little that can be done for visceral fat, other than exercise and careful diet.  You may want to watch for the likely approval of the drug tesamorelin.  (See here: http://www.drugs.com/nda/tesamorelin_090603.html)  It's shown modest efficacy in clinical trials and seems to reduce visceral fat.

In addition, promising research is being done into the use of the hormone leptin to reduce visceral fat gain.  (See here: http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/94/4/1137)  That research, however, is in its infancy.

1997 is when I found out, being deathly ill. I had to go to the hospital due to extreme headache and fever. I fell coma like,  two months later weighing 95 pounds and in extreme pain and awoke to knowledge of Pancreatis, Cryptococcal Meningitis, Thrush,Severe Diarea,  Wasting, PCP pneumonia. No eating, only through tpn. Very sick, I was lucky I had good insurance with the company I worked for. I was in the hospital for three months that time.

You may want to ask your doctor about human growth hormone (hgh).  I am currently taking Serostim (hgh) and the pamphlet that came with my prescription details research showing Serostim to help with "HIV-associated Adipose Redistribution Syndrome" (HARS), which is a subsegment of lipo and includes "buffalo hump" (more info here: http://www.aidsrestherapy.com/content/4/1/16)

Anyhow, here is more info on hgh helping with the issues you mentioned: http://www.biospace.com/news_story.aspx?NewsEntityId=27819

Good luck.
