Question about Anti-bodys and CDC....??
« on: October 29, 2008, 02:06:54 pm »
So heres my story...
I was leaving a party... As i went i kissed some girls goodbye, One of them came down from upstairs to give me a kiss
Well it turns out that the girl who cam from upstairs was giving a BJ to a boy....
Now i was worried that mabey his semen could of transfered from her lips (Or tounge) onto my lips... I didnt open my mouth but i cant remember now if she opened hers...
Anyway i was more worried if the seamen could get into a little cut or opening inside my mouth by me licking my lips after the kiss (I cant remember myself having any bleeding gums etc but it was 10 weeks ago now)

Some people told me im at no risk beacuse the air, Temp, Saliva etc would have killed the virus...

But to be on the safe side i decided to go for a HIV DUO test at 6 weeks, It came back negative
While waiting for my result for the DUO i also went for a rapid one (Nerves got the better of me) and at 7 weeks the rapid test was negative, I have just recently done one at 9 weeks and again is negative ;D

I havent really had any symptoms, Ive had some pains in my groin, A sore throat and noticed my tongues a wierd grey colour (But then again ive never studied my tongue so much) but apart from that nothing (No swollen nodes in my neck etc)

I was just wondering ,
Do you think i was ever at risk?
How reliable are my tests?

You were never at risk, no, not even if she had jizz running out of her mouth when you kissed. Sexually it's unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse which are the risks.

Kissing, with or without someone else's cum in your partner's mouth is aboslutely not in anyway a risk for transmission. You never needed to test over this. So yes, you are HIV negative.

We do recommend that anyone who's sexually active ought to at least annually have a full STD panel done just as a precaution. This time you have no cause for further concern about HIV as far as your incident is concerned.

If you continue to have troubling symptoms you should discuss them with your doctor. They have nothing to do with HIV.

Cheers.

Really there was never no risk? Most people have said there was no risk but one person (Yes one) said there was, thanks to this person ive gone through hell >:(

Im sure there wasnt Semen all over her face and running out her mouth (Would have noticed that and not kissed her  :P)

What got me worried is that i do suffer from bleeding gums from time to time  :(
Even though i do is there still no risk?

quest,

Still NO RISK. Semen or no semen, not one person has EVER been infected through a kiss and you aren't going to be the first.

Stop worrying about this and get on with your life. As long as you use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple. Click on and read all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

Ahh ok Ann i check those links out (As im getting to that point in my life :))

I know you cant catch HIV through a kiss (As Saliva doesnt carry a risk)
This did get me worried however as semen could have been involved...  :(

Give it up, fella.

Believe it or not, even IF she had semen in her mouth, a kiss is still just a kiss and it is not a risk. Really.

Ah ok , I am feeling alot better now as many people have told me to get over this...

I guess i was worrying about nothing, But please see it from my point of view
I was worried that maybe from that kiss some semen got into my mouth and then into a cut etc  :(

Ive never been so worried about 1 kiss lol !

Btw do you think most of these symptoms are down to stress?

Edit; I would also like to add that yes she did try tongues but i kept my lips closed, Ive never really liked deep kissing (Cant do it lol)
This is what made me worry, If she had semen on her tongue etc and then i licked my lips

We cannot diagnose symptoms for you. We can only evaluate a situation in terms of possible HIV risk. In the case of yours there was no risk.

Stress may have played a significant role in terms of your symptoms. If they persist you should discuss them with your doctor. But this is not an HIV situation based on what you have reported. That I can tell you without a doubt.

How many times and ways can we tell you that you weren't at risk?

If you keep coming back here about the same issue you're going to end up getting a time out.

It wouldn't have changed the risk level if she'd had her tongue deeply into your mouth. Still no risk.

End of story.

And you're welcome.

Hey, Sorry to reopen this post but i just want to ask something...

With my encounter how do you no its a Total NO RISK, Could you just explain why (For example is it beacuse the Air would have destroyed the virus and so on)
Im sorry id just like a bit of infomation why this is a no risk situation...

Also just another questions how conclusive would you say my results are?
A HIV DUO at 6 weeks : NEG
A HIV Rapid at 7 weeks: NEG
A HIV Rapid at 9 weeks: NEG
I mean what would be the chances of it turning positive after 9 weeks?

Thanks, And im sorry but i really want to put my mind at rest as ive just started a new relationship.... :D

Uncountable trillions of kisses later without anyone having become infected that way and you are going to hug your fears and insist it might be possible? Of course you haven't a shred of HIV science to support you about that. You are caught up fears which have no basis whatsoever in HIV facts.

How conclusive are you several negative results for a non-risk incident? Well, the average time to seroconversion is 22 days. All but the very smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after a REAL risk, and a real risk is something you didn't have. So no, I don't see any chance of you seroconverting after your latest negative result at 9 weeks.

You need to give it up. We're not up for handholding you as your mind comes up with another what if. You had no risk. Period. Believing that or not is up to you. You're on the verge of getting a time out. Really. Believe that too.

FYI, last warning. At this point everything you notice is ANOTHER SIGN of HIV to you. Ridiculous. And if seeing it from your point of view means that we should indulge these repeated anxiety-laden comments from you, that's not going to fly here. We've told you what we think.

If you have physical problems, see your doctor. Come back here again with more of the same and you're going to get a time out. Period.

Good. Enjoy your happy and totally expected (by us) negative result.

I don't know where you live but if you're in a city there is likely to be an AIDS service organization that can always use donations.

Be happy now and get on with your life.

Cheers.

questions,

You can contact THT (Terrence Higgins Trust) in many UK locations, or George House Trust in Manchester, or Sahir House in Liverpool - they all take donations. My preference is Sahir House, but your mileage may vary. You can ring 118-118 to find out their phone numbers.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will remain hiv negative. It really is that simple.

Hey, Just to let you know i made a donation  :)
I was just wondering though why some websites said you need to test at 6 months??
I mean im guessing that my 84 day negative rapid HIV test was conclusive???
So why are some websites saying 6 months? Are they just out of date (As the technology has improved?) Im just curious...

Btw i must say looking back at this post im kind of embarresed i got so worked up about this....

We are not responsible for what other websites put out. The CDC is quite conservative and has for a lengthy period of time supported 3 months as sufficient for a reliable result excepting longtime intravenous drug use, transplant and cancer victims and others with a severely compromised immune system. With today's more sensitive tests, any generation used will yield a reliable result at 13 weeks.

You have reliably tested negative. You ARE HIV negative. Period. End of story.

It's time to get on with your life.

Question about Anti-bodys and CDC....??
« Reply #21 on: December 14, 2008, 06:41:47 am »
Hey,
I was reading some information about how long it takes for the immune system to produce anti-bodies, Ive learnt that most people will develope anti-bodies within 2 to 8 weeks (the average being 22-25 days).
Ive also learnt that a 3 month/12 weeks/84 day test is conclusive, However while reading on the CDC it said that "97% will develop antibodies in the first 3 months following the time of their infection"

I was just wondering what about the other 3%? Are these people who have gone on PEP or have been on treatment for Cancer etc...?

Im just a bit confused, They say that a 3 month test is conclusive but then say 97% develope antibodies within 3 months??
I must say this did bring back the worry for me again (I know, Im sorry) :(  I thought my 84 day NEGATIVE rapid test was conlusive?

I would be greatful if someone could explain this to me  :)
Cheers

quest,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

The only people who MIGHT seroconvert a little later are those on chemotherapy for cancer, anti-rejection drugs following organ transplant, or have been injecting street drugs, every day, for YEARS. I trust you don't fall into any of those categories.

You still don't seem to understand that you were NEVER at risk for hiv from a kiss. You ARE hiv negative.

If you keep coming back with these kissing concerns, you WILL be given a time out. If you really cannot let this go, I suggest you seek face to face therapy to help you get over your hiv phobia. We cannot help you with that here.

Please consider yourself warned for the last time.
