I think back to not long ago when I joined these forums and was overwhelmed with navigating and comprehending the operational aspects of the forums. I was a member quite a while before I even ventured into this site and probably asked some dumb questions.
I thought it'd be nice for newer people to have an idea what it all about. I never dreamt it'd be the most important section I ever clicked on. I know the information is in here but I know I didn't like searching for it to get a basic understanding.
If any of the new members have any questions, I'll gladly answer them from a mid-newbie who enjoyed the gathering so much that I'm still living the benefits from it. And knowing this great bunch of people, all answers will eventually be correct. My versions might vary ;D ;D ;D

Here is a nice thread with different takes on AMG...

everyone takes away something different but it is always amazing :)

Thanks. I wish I'd have seen that one. I'm gonna go read it all now. I read the first few posts and enjoyed it. That's several years old and still relevant. Sometimes it's good to have
erections resurrections...

An AIDS Meds. Gathering is a place to meet fun loving people that will
become friends for life !
I have been to 2 and plan to attend as often as i can .
It has been a time of complete disorganization and the most fun I've had in years !
You can lay back , as I did in Las Vegas in the pool , or run around like a lost dog and
Explore what ever there is to explore .
The group gathers together for a Memorial Service , A Moving Experience provided by Gary .
A well organised Meet & Greet , For making sure that we all have properly met each other :)
Day trips with groups , sort of a Hodge podge travel tour that works well .
Lunch , dinner , Drinking , Dancing & any other thing you would wish to do .
In Seattle I tended to wonder off a few times to just walk and soak up the scenery .
It is something to look forword to .
As Wolfy said he is still living the benefits , So am I . Seattle was a blast !
My two cents ,

I know I didn't quote right...imagine that. I still feel the exact way now as I did when I made this post. Hence my vacation fund that can't be touched unless I deem it an emergency. IE. Clearance sales at Easton or Polairs.
seriously though, it made such an impact that I created a "Chicago" fund....Oops. This side money doesn't exist in my monthly budget and I've already earned enough that I should slow down a tad.
Never dreamt and totally appreciate everyone and everything I've learned.
Wolfie, who shouldn't be on line since he has to return to the post in 6 hours.

are hiv-negative people allowed to attend these AMGs?
-
Hey Kevin... yep! HIV negative folks are welcome to join us and the ones I met at AMG11 had a great time from what I remember.

Kevin, after reading through your posting history (including your four posts in the trash and your ten posts in the Am I Infected forum), I think you need to know something.
The hiv negative individuals who attend have a close relationship (friend, lover or relative) with someone who is a poz member of these forums. If you want to attend just because you're a virology student and think it would be cool to hang out with and pick the brains of poz people, then I doubt very much that you'd be welcome.
If you have a close relationship with one of the poz attendees and have been invited by them to join in, then go for it. Otherwise, no.

I posted the following in the other thread about AMG--Final Vote. But, got no responses as I think that thread is now dead.
For those of us who've never been to one of these, could someone provide some basic info? Who goes? Is it the members we interact with here on a daily basis? Or, other folks as well? Do people show up who follow the forums, but who don't post? How many usually attend? Are family/partners welcomed? What happens? Do people basically do their own thing and meet up for dinner one or two nights--go sight-seeing with whomever they came with or who they are friends with from the forums? Or, more structured?
Sorry for the 20 questions, but I think many, like myself, still are unsure what happens on these trips/gatherings.
Thanks in advance.

I believe 24 people attended Seattle. It is the people that interact here on this site plus a few of their spouses. We planned a few events in advance but didn't have a totally structured agenda that led to some great times. We have a meet and greet dinner where everyone gets introduced or reintroduced. We have a beautiful memorial service to remember those who have passed and to celebrate those of us who have survived.
We have a few drinks and lots of laughter. And then some of us followed that up with a few more drinks and lots more laughter. I was fortunate to have a lot of one on one times with various members.

Ted, if you take the time and read through some of the threads in this forum, it will become apparent what the AMGs are all about.

AMG is the best! For a guy like me who lives in a relatively rural area with no other poz contacts, its great to meet my friends from the poz.com forums in person and feel not so alone and just have an amazingly good time! The sightseeing is just a perk!

Thanks. The OP mentioned how he didn't like searching for info and would gladly answer questions, so I took him up on that offer. I missed that thread, which contained your informative reply. When I had searched before, I found many just saying how great it was and how much fun they had. Thanks again for the info.
