Bad Cold Still
« on: December 12, 2019, 05:37:15 am »
How's everyones colds doing?

I'm still bad with the cold, well over 2 weeks now. Thought is was clearing up but it come back with a bang this week. The stuffed up nose, cough, and worst for me that horrible low energy dopey feeling. I find it hard to get up in the mornings with it, focusing on work is hard, staring at the computer. I hope it passes soon.

My last blood test a couple of months ago CD4 was 190. I'm thinking with still having such a weak immune system that this will make colds worse and stay longer???

Making sure I take my antibiotic each day for sure!

I'm the sort of person who needs to be doing physical activity, gym, running etc, if I cannot I get tensed and irritated...like right now. lol.

Cold suck and can last a good 10 days, not to mention picking up new colds or winter bugs along the way. Fingers crossed all will be well before the holidays for you, my kids bring them home from school and keep giving them to me  :(

If you are really worried see your GP, however, if it's just a cold virus there is nothing they can do

Best, Jim

Yes lol I suspect this is a different stain of cold than by first one, so two back to back.
Yeah my kids are snotting & coughing all over me non-stop too.
Didn't think there much point in going to Doc at this point, I'll give in another week.
Not even sure if Lemsip works but it's comforting to drink.

I cannot wait for this damn CD4 count to increase another bit. back to clinic in late January for bloods.

Lemsip is great stuff. I hate to admit it but having colds is a good excuse for me to slip the Panadol Children's sirup  ;D I like it for some reason.

Hope you feel better soon, but i suspect it's going to be non-stop snotty noses until school finishes for the holidays for all the parents.

by 14 days both my husband and I seemed to finally be over our colds. (we don't have kids but my hubby works retail, so some jerk customer must have infected him!) unfortunately that pesky bug kept hanging around and after another 14 days we were both still blowing our noses - but a whole lot less! My nose at day 12 was soooo sore from all the kleenex; now I'm just blowing my nose just once or twice a day.

what annoyed me more than this endless cold was getting a "high" cd4 count the other day.  :o A huge 490! (one of my highest counts in 35 yrs) I'm annoyed because not only did I have this damned cold when my blood was taken but the very next day I ended up with yet another prostate infection! Ugh. That's 3 in the last 6 months. Cipro is another 2 pills added to the mix, and my little weekly pill case is almost too small to hold these pills. Usually I'm at my healthiest when my cd4 is around 350, so I guess I should have expected to end up sick with such a high count. LOL

I believe my "cold" was actually the flu.  It is rampant here in Las Vegas.  I had gotten vaccinated 4 weeks earlier, so my timing was good.  I had five days of extreme respiratory issues, with a scary, mostly dry, chest rattle that put my voice in the cellar.  I woke up at night with aching legs and hips that required ibupropen to get back to sleep... and sleep I did... 12 hours/day for 4 days.

It's been 3 weeks since I started coming down with it and now I have just a small amount of post nasal drip that's still hanging on.  Got through it w/o a trip to the doc.

 >:(

Finally getting over a cold, or at least the worst of it.  This one started coming on Monday of last week,  so it's been about a week.

This cold was one of the worse,... All week long, constant day and night, deep coughing, without producing anything. Its been very deep in the chest. The coughing been non-stop

A lot of fatigue, but not really any body aches. Spent most of this one in bed.

I called my sister yesterday,  :P and she didn't recognize my voice.  She ask me who I was.  Lol  :)  It still hurts quite a bit too swallow.

I tried some new over the counter medication, when we went out yesterday.  Got some chroroseptic spray. and went back to Alka -selzer cold medication ( Severe).  This is the package with the daytime and nighttime capsules in it. I dropped the Mucinex.  Didn'e seem to work this time around

I think the Alka -Seltzer capsules are working well.

Tomorrow morning at 11:00, I have some labs, that need to be taken.

Get well--- Ray

Hope everyone will feel better soon and the colds clear!

I've still the tail end of mine, nearly pushing 4 weeks now, my nose is still blocked etc. I did get out for a jog yesterday which was great, cleared my nose a bit, but of course I feel real tired today.

My son as the flu now so I hope I don't get it. I did have my flu shot a few months back...not sure if the shot actually prevents the flu totally or more so just takes the sting out of it?

I think the shot is what the scientists think that years flu strain would be prevalent,so another strain could still get you I think.
On that note my parents are sneezing and coughing all the while I'm on swimming shorts going to the beach (because it was quite sunny and warm today).

The flu shot is a combination of prevalent strains from the previous flu season and in this way it confers protection agains the most possible flu pathogens for about 6 months.

I usually don't get the flu vaccinated or not, but I get a cold or two during the season. Already got my first cold after taking a hot bath and immediately going outside as it was freezing cold. Got over it within 4 days, but as I knew what was coming I started to make teas, eat citruses and have rest even before symptoms began so this might have helped.

that's not how colds happen.  ;)

rhinovirus is a viral infection transmitted by airborne respiratory droplets (coughs or sneezes); by touching a contaminated surface (blanket or doorknob); by saliva (kissing or shared drinks); by skin-to-skin contact (handshakes or hugs). rhinovirus may spread more easily in lower temperatures, and exposure to cold and dry air may adversely impact the body's immune system not to mention colder temps tend to keep people inside and in contact with others so the virus has more opportunities to spread

unfortunately you had already been exposed several days prior to your symptoms and the hot bath/cold weather was just a coincidence

Still hanging on to this cold. It's been 16 days.  The coughing has finally subsided, But still feel it deep in the chest.

Went to the Doctor yesterday. He did a good exam, and prescribed me a five day supply of Azithromycin ( 250 mg)

So I took two as starters yesterday at noon, to be followed by one per day. with the last one on Friday.

Hope this knocks the rest of this out of me.

Hope everyone else is well !
