Hello! I am in a similar situation with a small difference. I am a gay man and also got sucked intensively  in a casual encounter for like 5-10 minutes, 36h ago. I did not give him any oral.  The difference is that from time to time I have a small dermatitis in the skin of my penis (in the middle of the penis, not in the glans). The skin is not cracked, there is no bleeding, it doesn’t hurt at all, it’s just a bit red and drier (like when these red tiny veins are a bit more visible and maybe a tiny bit sensitive). Am I at risk? Should I look for PEP? Or wait 30 days and get tested? Or would you be confident I am not at risk?

Read your post three times; what you posted here wasn't an HIV risk to you.

Move on with your life.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Thank you Jim! I read many posts where you consistently assure people that being sucked (insertive oral) is not a HIV risk. And that’s super helpful info, to keep people like me sane in these circumstances 😅. The only extra worry in my head is really this dermatitis, as the skin of my penis is not “100% healthy”. And if this could potentially be an entry point for HIV during insertive oral sex. Once more, thank you for your work!

Dermatitis isn't a route for you to acquire HIV, and the blowjob lacked exposure to viable HIV.

Hello again! I am so sorry for coming back to the topic. I was moving on with my life but yesterday in a casual conversation with a friend of mine who’s also a doctor about the situation I described, I panicked. He said to me that there are indeed studies reporting cases of people getting HIV from insertive oral sex, including without any other factor like a Swedish study from the 90s.

He send me a few articles for me to take a look, and after reading those, particularly the first three articles below, I completely freaked out!

I had a situation a few years ago when the condom broke and I had to go through PEP and that got me completely nuts about HIV. Since then, I am completely abstaining from penetration and from doing oral sex (sucking). And only had been sucked (insertive oral) very rarely since then and doing regular tests. The last time I was sucked, last Thursday,, it got on my nerves as I previously said.

I read it ... there is nothing new there; some of it is outdated or based on obsolete patient claims or data, like 1989.

After the HAART era, the biological and environmental conditions required and the barriers to HIV, including that saliva doesn't contain viable HIV and is hostile towards it, started to be better understood.

As for receiving a blowjob, it lacks the conditions required for acquiring HIV, including exposure.; thus, it makes sense that after 40+ years of this pandemic in terms of BJs, there hasn't been a single confirmed case of HIV transmission to an insertive partner (the person being "sucked"). You will not be the world's first.

Considering the source material you are looking at, I should also point out that you will not acquire HIV from toothbrushes, eating, hugging, shaking hands, aliens or kissing.

Reversing the situation momentarily, imagine that you had been the one giving a blowjob. The answer would, its a minute HIV risk that doesn't warrant testing outside of standard yearly screening and to "Move on with your life."

For starters, stop talking to your "friend" and instead consider talking to a psychiatrist. I don't mean this in a bad way, but if you are letting your fears control or stop you from living your full life, that's the moment to start talking to a psychiatrist to help you manage and cope with these fears. Avoiding life and panicking over nothing isn't healthy living.
