Hey all,

first of all i'd like to say I have posted here previously, but can't remember the username/pass I used a while ago, I have a new issue here.

On the weekend just gone went out drinking with a few friends and when I went to walk through a busy crowd of people in a nightclub I felt something stick into my back and it suddely felt a bit painful, and I turned quickly and there was a man walking quite quickly the other way. I reported this to the security staff and they checked my back and said there was a little red mark there but said it could easily be a spot, I went down to my local hospital immediately after this and the nurse there seemed uninterested in what I had to say. I am just wondering what everyones opinion is on this, is it worth me going to a doctor after the 3 month period for tests for HIV? Hepititus? etc, or am I going madly overboard here? if I am at risk what are the chances of HIV+ results from this kind of exposure.

Dear all,

I had sex with a woman in her mid 20s two weekends ago on a saturday night after going out on a binge, the next day after waking up together we started talking about previous relationships etc and she went on to tell me that she used to go out with a man who regularly shot up herione. I didn't mention my concerns at the time but i've had several HIV scares in the past and this one seems to be the worst for me at the moment, I don't know if its just initial shock or if it is actually worse than what i've experienced before. Really worried.

Did you use a condom? If you did, you didn't have a risk.

If you didn't, you DID have a risk, although one on the lower end of the scale. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and more so from a woman to a man. You will need to test, if you didn't use a condom, at three months past this incident for a conclusive result.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms and avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.
