HIV, HSV Herpes and swollen neck/throat
« on: September 28, 2013, 07:14:37 am »
Hi,

I tested positive a about 6 months ago after a feverish acute phase. Since then I've had two or three swellings in my neck.

Spots with rash appeared on penis recently, doctor and internet point towards herpes. I'm due to go on HIV meds next month so not too worried. HOWEVER this week have increasingly swollen glands between neck and jaw. When I tip my chin towards chin the glands stick out when I feel them.

Anyone recognise these symptoms?
Know if going on herpes meds will help?
Know how I can encourage these swellings to go down?
Anything else I should look out for?

All feedback welcome, if this is in the wrong place or already being dealt with on this forum please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Hi Thomas and welcome.

Glands can swell for a 1000 and 1 reason,s including that they are doing there job and fighting an infection. However I always get myself to the Doc and in your case I,d underline that as its early days and it will be helpful to your Doc to have as much info as possible.

Let us know how things go.

i have the same. first i got one under my jaw that's what got me worried. i went to 2 doctors all of them didnt seem to care much. they said thet get swollen if you get any virus like flu etc. but that didnt get better so i got tested.... short story my ID says i shouldnt worry and leave them alone and theyll go to their normal size when it is time. ive been on meds for some months my vl is ud they got smaller but they are swollen still. my doctor say i should be concerned if they grow and keep growing.....
they made me do it

Went to Clinic. Doctor tested and said lumps on penis are genital warts. "regardless of whether or not you have Herpes, which we don't know" and then offered me a syphillis test.... Did he just pull a cheapish test out the bag for reassurance?

Swellings are gradually going down, sleeping more, eating well, and stopped stabbing/massaging swellings so maybe that helped.

I think it's clear my body is fighting more vigorously if swellings on neck and throat have increased. I don't know whether it's because of lifestyle reasons (like drinking, smoking weed, and lack of sleep) that genital warts have emerged, because of gradually rising virus count, or another unprotected sexual encounter with the girl who originally gave me HIV some months before. Whatever it is I have surely given enough reasons for glands to pop up.

Thanks for your replies.
