Um....ow.
« on: August 06, 2007, 02:22:56 pm »
So I just threw my back out and had to crawl- yes, crawl- all the way from the kitchen to the bedroom & try to drag myself up onto the bed.  I can't get vertical.  This totally sucks.  I'm prone to having muscle tears in my lower back and they often come out of nowhere.  Today is one of those special days, apparently.  Could be anywhere from a few hours til tomorrow before I can walk normally again.

Damn it.

That sucks Timbie. Nothing works to relieve the pain, heating pad, creams, meds or vodka? Maybe a hot soak if you can get in the tub? Sorry baby.

OUCH Thunder !

I have a pinched nerve on my lower back and once in while it will make me almost paralyzed.  I know the pain you must been feeling....

I once threw my back out with a sneeze...and I couldn't get up from the floor...I couldn't even lay flat on the floor...I had to be curled up in a fetus position for a good hour before the drugs kicked in and the pain was numbed.

Try laying on your back on the floor and bring your knees to your chest...it helps stretch your lower back and sometimes it will help you get better faster.

I have had three or four occurrences of this before and could never nail down what triggered the problem. Last time I just wanted to get out of bed and I was stuck there, unable to move. It usually resolves by itself at the end of the day or at most 3 days. I could never figure out what happened. Do you know what triggered it?

my is cause by a pinched nerve called Sciatica:

Sciatica Symptoms
The most common symptom from sciatica is pain. Most people describe a deep, severe pain that starts low on one side of the back and then shoots down the buttock and the leg with certain movements.

The pain is usually worse with both prolonged sitting and standing. Some people describe the worst pain when trying to stand from a low sitting position, such as standing up after sitting on a toilet seat.

In most people, the pain is made worse by sneezing, coughing, laughing, or a hard bowel movement. Bending backward can also make the pain worse.

You may also notice a weakness in your leg or foot, along with the pain. The weakness may become so bad you can't move your foot.

hmmm....that's the thing.  there are plenty of times during the past week or two that i would have been able to say yes, but right now it was during the most mundane of circumstances.  i was about to deposit an empty frozen dinner tray in to the trash & wham-o!  down to the ground.  of course, it is possible (maybe even likely) that i've put my back close to the brink in recent days and it just now hit the breaking point.  i think that has been the case in the past.  whatever.  it sucks.

and i still have to pee.

Oh man, what a bummer. Crawl my dear handsome one, crawl. Now rather than later.
These things come out of nowhere it seems. You NEED to get this fixed (numbed) soon as you will not leave us wanting for THUNTER during AMG!
Vicodin + flexeril + Ibupropen 800mg would fix you up nicely.
Once, I bent forward to pick up a feather I found in the yard and my back was out for two weeks!

Is this one of those things where you're supposed to lay down on a hard wood floor for days at a time?  I had a boss who had to do that a lot... though I was quite content to see him suffer.

Sorry to hear of this Mr. Hunter.  You seem too young for such issues.

Not a chance.  It will be long over before then.  Actually, it's a good thing for it to happen now.  Makes the likelihood of it happening again for several months really slim.  Based on past experience, once i get over this bout, it could be the holidays or even next year before it crops up again.

for now...ouch, though.

yes, it's one of those lay flat and do all the stretches kinds of dealies.  and dammit, i am too young for these issues- though they have hit me since my college days.  the first time was actually in the showers at school.  i couldn't even step over the 2 inch partition that kept the water in the shower bay.  had to get my finals rescheduled because i couldn't sit up to take them.  this bout isn't as bad as that one, but it's stil got me down.   the thing that helps the most is acupuncture, actually.  haven't been in a long, long time.  that is probably why i am having bouts now and then once again.

and the pee bottle is not within reach.  crawling must happen one way or another.

Tim,

It sounds like you are in a lot of pain.  Is there someone locally you can call to lend you a helping hand?  If I lived closer, I'd be happy to fix you some chicken soup (or whatever it is that is good for an ailing back).

(gentle) Hugs...

Henry

I have something similar happen to my neck and shoulders sometimes... I don't know what initially caused it.  I can at least sit up, drive, etc being that it's an upper back thing.  It sure is a bitch to drive when I can't turn my head to the right!  What helps me is laying on a hard surface (floor) and raising my hips slightly to press my back down.  That, and a soak in a hot tub will often help.  I've got the hot tub ready, if you wanna give that a shot!   ;)  Seriously, I hope you get better soon.

Timtation!~

So sorry to hear of your pain!  I was at the chiropractor's today, I have been going for years now.  Sounds like your pain is pretty damn acute!  Ibuprofen will give you the quickest relief, if any.  Personally, you being horizontal and having all of us in bed with you today can't be so bad, can it?   ;)

Hope you got a chance to pee by now, lol!  Hang in there, sweetie, and take it slow.  No Metal for you until you recover.....  :-*

UPDATE:  I managed to get vertical and shuffle step to the loo.  Took about 20 minutes to do so, but I feel much better for the effort.  It's a good sign that I have made it to the shuffle step phase- that's ahead of schedule.  It means that if I remain gentle on myself, I may be able to be fairly normal in mobility tomorrow.  Just no sudden movements or anything.

AN UPDATE:  I just watched in absolute horror as a gigantic, enormous & hateful spider emerged from the plant across the room & crawled across the floor toward the door.  I was still partially paralyzed from yesterday and also trapped in the room by the spider (who was stopped squarely in the doorway).  I threw a pill bottle at it and got it to move...then waddle-stepped out to the garage to get some poison.  I sprayed enough poison to likely buck the wood in the floors, so he's probably dead- but I don't know that for sure.  He crawled down the air vent on the floor and vanished.  I'm in considerable pain now, but I'm even more terrified.

I'll be sleeping with one eye open.

Heck, with these meds my urine is probably toxic enough to have done him in.  I am hating that the damn thing crawled off into the air vent. Since I didn't see him actually die, there's this big question mark hanging over the whole thing.

On a muscle relaxer-induced random sidenote:  I'm watching an old film on PBS called the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus.  I've never heard Marianne Faithful without heroin voice.  She really could sing.

Sorry for your pain Tim,
But, did you have to kill the poor, innocent, harmless, defenseless spider? You don't even have deadly ones over there do you?

Pray, do tell, WTF is Yoko up to? I have this image of Yoko and Marianne Faithful going for it.

it's the Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus.  it's on PBS and i'm too sore/high from pain pills to get back up and change the channel or get the remote (which ended up near the door due to the spider incident).  Marianne Faithful was singing.  I don't know what Yoko was doing.  Sort of....shrieking somehow.  and none of the Stones have wrinkles.  it's all very surreal.

and all spiders are potentially deadly in my opinion.  they're evil like that.

Thanks for asking. Just this week, I have finally been able to dispense with the special 'donut' cushion when sitting down - ready to get back on the horse, so to speak  ;D, just gotta find a horse  :o

i could have gone forever without the pic of the funnel web.  thats not helping.

when i was a boy, the put a hole in the wall in the living room because i opened up the S encyclopedia on the page that had the photo of a tarantula.  i screamed and threw the book.  my mom ducked and the corner of the book slammed into the wall above her head.i have always been terrified of spiders..

When I was kid, I used to play with funnel webs in the backyard  :o I doubt I would be quite so foolish these days. But, just the other day, I found a few redbacks in my backyard (similar or same as your black widow) but I let them be, and refused to mention it to my flatmate who, like you, would have reached straight for the poison spray and sprayed gallons over the house and garden. My theory is that the spray is likely to do me more harm the spider so I let them be, unless of course they are hanging round the toilet which redbacks have a tendancy to do.

when i was in school, i had an apartment with windows wide enough to stretch your legs and sit in.  it was on the 5th floor.  there was a particular spider that had been menacing me in the apartment for some time, emerging from the ceiling to hang over my head and stare at me in that threatening spider way like they do.  he had a way of just being there  for ages until i took my eyes off of him- then he would suddenly be somewhere else  all of the sudden.  i had had enough and put in a call to the exterminator.

well...the day after the exterminator's visit, and as i was sitting in the window, the carcass of the newly dead spider fell from the ceiling down to the window right by my leg!  i immediately leapt sky high.  thank god i had one foot planted on the floor and only one in the window because it propelled me in the direction of the living room.  otherwise, i would have most likely fallen to my death- over a dead spider.

hence, i say all spiders are potentially deadly to me.
