What do you mean by "I take occasional electrolytes?"  Do you mean drinking something like Gatorade to balance your electrolytes?  If so, there should be no problem with any adverse interaction with your (Atripla) regimen.

If you are unsure, just check with your healthcare provider.

Hi Paul,

I hope your day is going well.

I never even thought that taking electrolytes could be bad for you, but I can understand your concern.  I have many food restrictions and even asked my ID doctor if I can take protein powder and he encourages it.

I was put on a Neutropenic diet after my Dx and for me those type of sports drinks are encouraged, and I'm also an Atripla.  I've also learned through my research that the Rx's we are on will dehydrate us so keeping hydrated is very important.

It wouldn't hurt to ask your health care provider things that you should and shouldn't drink/eat as everyone is different. Then again I would drink more then just electrolytes and just get plenty of water.  A well balanced diet is key.

Wishing you the best.

The main concern is sugar content or glucose, some people say there bad for you, but its important to replenish after sweating etc in a hot climate,  stronK -K thai content sodium 460-920  mg pottasium 195 mg citrate 819mg glucose not less than 2% total weight, net weight 25grams, I only take every 3 or 4 days but I'm not sure is this brand is good? But you do lose electrolytes here, any views? Thank you

I avoid them because of the sugar content and I struggle to keep my fasting glucose down as it is. I do drink plenty of water and eat a healthy diet. If your blood work is all good just drink a sensible amount and see what your readings are after a few months. Adjust your intake to suit. I would think more of how your kidneys will be filtering it out but then I also would not over think it. Just keep it mind when going through your blood test results next time if you have some strange readings.

Look being hydrated is good, taking electrolytes as such is not a problem. Sugar is evil but that is just my personal view of the world.

Talk to your doctor if you are unsure or need a diet plan plan to help you. I've added a basic link that goes into nutrition & HIV.
