Booked aholiday in Cyprus without thinking about my meds - What do I need to do

Hi Folks.. hope you are all OK.  Don't know what I would do without this website sometimes!

I'd be grateful someone has some advice for me on this topic...

I haven't been on holiday for years abroad - ever since my diagnosis to be honest, but have just booked a fortnight (October ) in Cyprus with my partner.

I booked the holiday rather recklessly without thinking really if it would be awkward taking my meds - Apart from my medication (Sustiva & Kivexa) I really don't have any problems and tolerate the regime (my firstline) brilliantly - I don't notice it really apart from having to remember to take them all the time.

Anyway.. Now that I've booked I'm getting worried - I know I have to tell the insurance company which isn't a problem but do I have to jump through any hoops to take my medication with me? I'm not planning to work or study so I'm hoping there aren't any restrictions.

Can anyone offer advice? Don't want to be tunred away at the airport if they find my meds in my bag.

PS - I'm a UK citizen and just want to go on holiday and boogie the night away - haha ;)

In general, traveling with medication is rarely a problem.

One question, though, are you going to "Cyprus" or "Northern Cyprus" (more correctly known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus)?

Cyprus is a member of the EU so, as an EU citizen, you really shouldn't have any problems.

Northern Cyprus might be a bit more difficult in the unlikely event that they actually noticed the medication.

Thanks for your advice... Yes it is Southern Cyprus... Should I just pack my meds and not worry do u think?

It's all the Republic of Cyprus. Only Turkey recognises Northern Cyprus or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

While you are absolutely correct, that doesn't alter the fact that, whether you like it or not, the northern part of Cyprus is not currently under the control of the government of the Republic of Cyprus and if you want to visit that region you will have to either deal with the people who are in de-facto control of it or just not go there.

Well that is certainly what I would do.

www.aidsmap.com has a list of countries and their entry restrictions which suggests that Cyprus isn't particularly HIV friendly and although it isn't completely clear what their attitude to visitors is, it doesn't look particularly good ...

However, unless you are the kind of person who for some reason always gets stopped and searched by customs and immigration I wouldn't give it a second thought.

And on the positive news front, just today they are reopening a street in Nicosia that has divided the north and the south for some 40 odd years.

Thanks for your advice Folks and your kind message Mike.. this might sound strange but after 4 years diagnosed I'm realising that life doesn't grind to a halt forever.

I'll pack my meds and try not to worry - I don't think there are restrictions for tourists so if i should be stopped i'll be honest and tell the truth.

I travelled throughout europe with my meds in my hand luggage and never had a problem
