Worried and depressed

Hi

I had unprotected oral and protected sex with a casual worker in thailand, I got tested for stds and hiv 3 days after the incident and was negative for all , and again at 2 weeks again negative for hiv and syphillis. Since I have returned home(3 weeks) I have been feeling very tired and have had sore muscles all over my body and have had a sore groin and underarm. I have been feeling very depressed and had been drinking heavily a lot over this which I though may have been dehydration and my body saying time to stop.  I have just returned to a cold country from a very warm one and now feel like I have the flu coming on, could this be ars symptoms even when you have a runny nose etc. I have also been looking at getting a HIV DUO test done which states "Coupled with an antibody test, the HIV p24 antigen is very accurate in determining early on whether an individual has been infected with HIV. The HIV DUO test is extremely accurate at 28 days and is now the test recommended by the 2008 UK Guidelines on HIV testing, The HIV DUO test, including p24 antigen, is considered 99.8% accurate." can you advise on this please, and my risk of exposure.

Thanks Rod for the quick reply. I was more worried as I was sore and it felt like the flu but with no real phlem etc which seems to be starting now, may just have been the jetlag the guilt and too much alochol.

It's cold and flu season in the UK right now. Please keep that in mind.

You did not have a risk for hiv infection, so you do not need further hiv testing.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER GETTING A BLOWJOB OR PROTECTED INTERCOURSE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
