HIV Self-Test Kit??
« on: January 17, 2007, 04:03:58 pm »
Hi there,

I recently met up with two rent boys (two "escorts") in London and paid them both for sex in a threesome. I recieved anal sex from both guys (one aged 19 and the other 21) but they both wore condoms and used lube before they inserted their penises in my rectum. Like I say, both guys wore condoms when they did me (they didn't both do me at once, it was one then the other!). However the three of us sucked each others penises (I sucked both their penises and they sucked mine) and in doing so no condom was worn over any of our penises. I know that oral sex (even without a condom) poses very little risk when giving/recieving oral sex to and from an HIV-positive individual, but know that there is that SMALL CHANCE that it could be passed on through oral sex, as the CDC (Centre for Disease Control) has reported several cases where HIV has been transmitted through oral sex. This is all the three of us did together: "safe" anal sex with condoms and oral sex without condoms. Two to three days later I became quite ill with symptoms I described to my mum and dad as like having "a bad cold" or a mild "flu". I had raised temperature, got hot and cold flushes, felt quite sick and this lasted two or three days itself then went away (now I feel totally fine and healthy). I am so scared. Could this be HIV? I was given anal sex by two guys who both wore condoms, and when they both took their penises out of my rectum I never noticed any holes or breaks or splits in either of the condoms (I knew to look out for this) so I am assuming the condoms didn't split. But I DO wonder if perhaps I have been infected with HIV through the oral sex??? I am so scared and am really worried, I don't want to die an early death, I am only young (18 years old, 19 this year) and don't think I could cope being told I am HIV positive. I know the ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT FOR SURE is to be tested. I am just asking you though, to ask your opinion on WHAT THE RISK IS that I might have HIV - maybe if I can word it better, I want to find out what you think the chances are of having caught HIV from either of the two guys (if not both of them) are, given what we did with each other. At the time I became ill with this flu-like illness that lasted a couple of days, the weather here in England was very cold and rainy and very windy because its winter, and I wonder if maybe it just so happens that it is coincidence that I happened to get a bad cold or flu because of the horrible weather...but then I wonder if the escorts have given me HIV! Please I am so worried, I will get tested in three months time (I might wait six to be absolutely certain) but I just want your opinion on the chances.

Thanks and lots of love, a very worried young lad,

Scott. xxxx

I would say you have no risk.  The CDC cases that are constantly quoted are REPORTED cases.  Which is MUCH different than DOCUMENTED cases.  There has been no DOCUMENTED cases of HIV transmission occuring through oral sex.

Well, I say two to three days, it could have been a bit more (it was definately no more than a week)...my memory is just a bit hazy as to when EXACTLY the symptoms started. I forgot to mention on two occassions I woke up drenched in sweat.

Symptoms if you have them at all, come on 2-4 weeks post infection. They last for one to two weeks and go away all at once. Receiving oral is not a risk, giving oral sex is so low that if it were to happen it would be rarer than rare.

Well, if it was no more than a week, it still is too early to be HIV.  IF you get symptoms, they will crop up 2-4 weeks post incident.  This is the time of year for cold and flu season.  In your anxiety, you are just connecting it to that event when any other time, I'm sure you'd realize that it is just a coincidence.  Personally, I wouldn't even bother with an HIV test over this incident, but if it makes you feel any better--then only testing out to 3 months is definitive, you do not need to go out to 6 months.   Your HIV test will be negative.  On a side note do not forget other STIs--they are much easier to get than HIV.  It is a good idea for anyone having sex to get regular testing--at minimum yearly.

Ok so the risks associated with oral sex (both giving oral and recieving) are VERY, VERY minimal to zero? The CDC and the vast majority of the big health organisations (including the UK Government's Department of Health) say that HIV can indeed be transmitted via oral sex (that is through both giving and recieving oral) however they state that it is very low. So for anyone to say that oral sex (both giving and recieving) carries ZERO risk is completely wrong, then??? Because according to absolutely every single health organisation and health proffessional on the net, there seems to be the agreement that YES, the virus can indeed be transmitted through oral-genital contact, even if there is no ejaculation involved....I am so scared...I'd like to say that when I gave oral to the two escorts I wasn't aware of either of them ever producing pre-cum (though thats not to say they didn't, just because I was not aware of it) and when they both gave me oral I don't think I did, either. However I still could have HIV even if I didn't get it through the oral, right? YES, I may well have had anal sex that was protected, but I have never recieved anal sex at all before this incident, which means my rectum would have been VERY tight and one of the escort's condoms if not both could have torn or split or broke in some way due to my rectum being tight upon entry???? I say I did not notice any damage to the condoms...but the damage could have been microscopic? I know the only way to know for 100% certain is for a test...but I just need several more people to answer my fears. I hope I am not coming across as being a burden or a complete pain ...I am sure though that you all understand.

Lots of love to you all, whether neg or pos,

That's not true at all, there have been a few documented cases of contracting HIV via giving head which could not be verified to  rule out other risks. As for receiving a blowjob there has never been a documented case of contracting HIV in 25+ years. The risk is "theoretical " only.

Ok so oral might (yes, might) be a very, very, very low risk activity indeed and ok lets assume I have very, very little to worry about having caught HIV from having given and recieved oral. But can you please read my question about the condoms...thanks, this DOES mean so much having to reply to my messages. I must be a complete pain. PS. I am getting tested in early April when it would have been just over 3 months.

Whats the risk
« Reply #10 on: August 01, 2007, 09:29:36 pm »
Hi there. I have posted on this site a little while before, and again have been foolish enough, to put myself at risk for HIV transmission. Only this time I think it is much more likely to have happened. I am a 19 yr old bi-sexual male, and am from time-to-time sexually active (with people of both genders) and always practise safe sex when it comes to insertive/receptive anal or vaginal sex.
However, a few weeks back I slipped up and made a mistake. I was drunk, as I had consumed quite a lot of alcohol, and well I did a very foolish thing. I had unprotected vaginal sex with a female friend of mine, who I was drinking with. She has told me that she had unprotected vaginal sex a about 2-3 months before with some guy she met off of the internet, so this made me very scared.
However I did not keep my penis inside her vagina for long. I was finding difficult to stay erect (because I was so drunk; for me it always proves difficult to get an erection when drunk and to keep an erection for very long once I have one). I did not cum inside her nor did I have sex with her to the point of getting close (feeling a climax), and I withdrew a few times due to losing my erection or begining to lose it.
I am sorry to go into detail, but I think it appropriate so that you can understand more of the situation (I hope not to offend anyone). So whenever I withdrew, I would masturbate my penis until I got hard again, then put it inside her vagina again...have a few thrusts then get soft (too much to drink!).
The whole thing lasted not even 5 minutes (well, I think it MAY have been 5 mins, but was definately no more). I am so scared. Today I woek up with a sore throat (very sore when I swallow, and a slight temp as well as having had real bad night sweats a couple nights before). Whats the risk factor here? I am going to buy a home test kit (do I need to wait 3 months for this?)
Also I have another question: I went to my GP (General Practicioner; what we call doctors here in Britain) a while back and asked about oral sex and HIV (due to the conflicting information on the net). She said that "no matter what anyone else says" it is true that people can and DO get HIV through oral sex and that there have been (even if just a few) actual documented cases. You guys here seem to be rather expertise, what would you say to this?
Thank you for taking time to read this, these questions have more than likely been asked already, but I felt the need to post on here as I am very anxious and uptight, especially given my symptoms.

Well she needs to read up on the oral risk issues, since NONE of the so called documented cases can be validated. As for your question, you had unprotected sex, doesn't matter if you claimaxed or not you had a risk. Test at 12 weeks and collected your conclusive result.

I've merged your threads here. For now and in the future keep your entries in this same thread.

HIV is not an easy virus to transmit and it is significantly more difficult to transmit from female to male. Bottom line is the odds are in your favor that you will test negative from this recent incident even IF the woman in question is HIV+, and you don't actually know that to be so.

There IS a major red flag in this situation. Excessive drinking mixed with casual sex is a very, very dangerous combination and too many people I know who are HIV+ got that way through just that kind of situation. Learn from this experience and wake up to the reality that everytime you have unprotected sex you are putting your life at risk. It's as stark and as simple as that.

I agree with Rod. That's all nonsense about getting HIV from oral sex. There's never been a single confirmed case from getting a blowjob and no really reliable evidence in relation to giving oral. (Read our lesson on transmission).

Chances are you will come out of it ok this time when you test, but low risk is not the same as no risk. Wake up! We're talking about your life and death here!

HIV Self-Test Kit??
« Reply #16 on: September 15, 2007, 03:34:46 pm »
http://uk.hivtest.biz/index.php    Is this kit as reliable as the ELISA and Western Blot? Most sites that sell the self test kit like this one, and many people I have spoken to, say that they are almost just as reliable if not as reliable as the ELISA and WB. What do any of you guys know about the kits like the one on this site (which is only being sold for £10).

wolfy,

Save your ten quid. The ONLY reliable home hiv test kit is Home Access - it's the only one approved by anyone.

If you're in the UK, you can go to ANY GUM clinic and get tested anonymously, for free. Don't screw around with home testing.

Would you like to tell us why  you think you need to test? If you had an actual risk, that means you had unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, in which case you need a total STI screening, not just hiv. The other STIs are MUCH more easily transmitted than hiv.

Of if you've been sharing needles, you'd need to test for hepatitis as well - so go to a clinic if you've had a real risk.

wolf,

I didn't notice you'd already had a thread when I posted above.

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you'd posted where you're supposed to, I would have known you're worried about unprotected vaginal.

You need to go to your nearest GUM and get a full STI check up and set up an appointment to get tested for hiv three months after your incident took place.

Things like chlamydia are rampant in the UK so get checked out. You're MUCH more likely to have pick that up than hiv and infections like chlamydia don't always have obvious symptoms.

And remember to use condoms in future! Read through the condom and lube links in my signature line.

Hi what is the risk if somebody shot his ejaculate (cum) ...assuming it was HIV infected...over my ass (sorry for the language!) but not actually ejaculating while fucking me? I did not partake in anal sex, however this guy ejacualted over my ass and I am worried there is a risk that his cum ran into my anus. I am not sure if the cum was just on my buttocks or whether it ran down into my anus as well. I am so afraid. I do try to stay safe and play safe, only I had had a lot to drink.
All I want is proffessional, friendly advice, cos I am so scared about this encounter. Not only did the guy cum over my ass, but he put his pre-cum in my mouth, too, with his finger. Whats the risk here? I notice some people on here always write to concerned people that HIV infection via oral sex is no risk, but this isn't true. It's low risk  not no risk? I am so scared. I love you guys because you ARE (not all of you OK, but MOST of you) very friendly and non-judgemental.
lots of love everyone

You can't contract HIV from someone losing his load on your butt-cheeks and semen won't dribble down your crack and work it's wicked way into your bunghole.

He has to be HIV positive and then stick his dick up your bum and shoot his hot load inside you for the virus to be transmitted.

You don't need to test for HIV over this incident.

I'm using this post as I understand the rules are not to start a new topic in a new page seperate from your previous posts.
Going over my previous posts you will see that I have in the past put myself at risk of infection with the HIV virus.
But just to ever so quickly re-cap, a few years back I had a threesome with two escorts who I performed unprotected oral sex on and had protected anal sex with (I was the receptive participant) however no lube was used.
Some time later I had unprotected but very brief drunken vaginal sex with a woman.
And since then I have met with several other guys and had unprotected oral sex (I performed the oral, I was the one sucking, not getting sucked) I had brushed my teeth on one of these occassions immediately before and had ever so slightly bleeding gums. Now I know that peforming oral sex (unprotected) carries a very small risk, however I am extremely frightened. I know I should test but wanted to hear what people think about this - the guy did not cum in my mouth but pre-cum did get into my mouth and therefore I'd assume it got into my blood from the bleeding gums - if he was HIV positive...well...I guess I am infected.
Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated x

And I know how stupid and at fault I was. It's so strange how even though I knew my gums had tiny amount of blood on them from vigorously brushing my teeth, I still went ahead and gave into temptation.

Reports by people who claim to have been infected by giving oral never seem to hold up under scientific scrutiny. In the real world of HIV, sexual risk is about unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. All the other so-called risks are theoretical rather than actual.

I don't see any need for testing over this recent incident. The only reason to do it is just for your peace of mind and to collect the inevitable negative result.
