Newbie/lurker introduction
« on: October 28, 2008, 02:17:12 pm »
Good afternoon ladies,

I'm not sure if intros are supposed to go in a particular existing thread or not...if they are, sorry for the duplication.  I wanted to greet everyone here.  My name is Sheri, and I'm 31.  I'm the adoptive mother of two beautiful girls, a teenager and a 6 year old, who are from West Africa (as am I), and I recently gave birth to another adorable daughter (7 wks).  My middle daughter is positive.  I've lurked on the Poz website for some time now (blogs, etc) and only last month started perusing the forums and joined the site, though I haven't posted much.  There seem to be some really interesting people on here, and I look forward to interacting with you guys.   ;D

Hey Sheri,

Welcome to the forums.  Are you HIV+ also, or just your middle daughter?  No matter, we'd like to get to know you, but I am curious if you are positive also.

I'm Betty and I've been + for 19 years.  There's been a lot of ups and downs, right now more ups (for the moment, health wise).

Congratulations on the birth of your youngest and I hope to hear more from you.
  Luv,
Betty

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!  It's nice to have an all-female haven here.  Betty, my oldest & youngest daughters and I are negative; only my 6 year old is positive.  She's been undetectable for a year and a half, though, and is a bundle of joy and energy, despite some ailments here and there.

Sheri, thanks for checking back in.  You're welcome to join us in the "ladie's thread" whenever you feel comfortable enough to do so.  We usually talk about our daily lives, struggles and just support each other.  We've had a couple other negative moms join us occasionally, and you're more than welcome.  Kisses to the 6-year old. :-*

Betty

Hi, I'm Gutsy..or at least trying to be.  I was diagnosed in May 08.  I'm usually a determined and strong willed individual, but this diagnosis has really knocked me off my feet.  I haven't told anyone, but my ex...who I believe has betrayed my confidence.  I have a 21 year old daughter and an 11 year old son....who's mad at me for kicking out his dad (neither of them have been informed).  I don't know which way is up these days.  I need friends who listen and understand and can help me get through the next 40 years that ID Doctor promised.
Show me the ropes ladies- cause I'm clueless.

Hey Gutsy,

Welcome to the forums, in particular, our little "family."  I'm glad you found us.

I've been diagnosed since 1989.  I have a 24-year old daughter, who's known almost from the date of my diagnosis.  Of course, that doesn't mean you have to rush into telling your kids if you're not ready to.

Ask whatever questions you have.  We ladies try to be very helpful and we're a good bunch.  If you haven't already, join us in the "ladie's thread."  It's where we talk about our daily lives, troubles, and little triumphs and support each other.

Hope to hear more from you.
  Luv,
Betty

Hi Gutsy if you are still around

I have had HIV since at least 2003 but only knew in Jan 08 when my husband of 22 years got AIDs and PCP.
I have a now 19 year old daughter who has known from the day we knew, and all my family and friends know - but we are all different and have to tell people in our own time or not at all if we do not want to.

This forum can be a lifeline - hope you come back

I have a blog here, please do not judge me on what I say here- I need to offload and this is where I do it: http://hiv-and-us.blogspot.com/

Hi Gutsy:

Welcome to a wonderful forum. The ladies here are great.  I have been positive since 1989.  My sons were grown when I was infected and it took a little while before I told them and the rest of my family.  However, all in all everyone has been very supportive.

My granddaughter is now 18 and we have been able to sit and chat about all kind of things, including living with HIV.

Congrats on the little one and hopefully things will get better and better for you and your family in the new year.

Hi Gusty,

Welcome to the forums. I have been diagnosised since December '07. I just made it through my first year mark! These women are great. They helped me a lot when I was like you, I did not know if I was going or coming. Right now My CD4 is 535 and I am undectable. If you have any questions, just ask, these women are pretty knowledgable. Again Wecolme.

Hi everyone!  It is great to be here.  I have been living with HIV for about 6 years now.  I got it from my husband.  I have beautiful twin girls that are negative.  I finally left my husband a few years ago (lol not because of the HIV, but because I was the wrong gender for him).

I recently moved in with my HIV- boyfriend.  Yes, it still amazes me that he sees past the HIV.  I often struggle with guilt over exposing him, though we are very careful.  Thankfully his tests continue to return negative, and i worry less and less as time goes by.

Anyways......  great to meet you and I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hey Willowwind,

Welcome to the forums, particularly our family.  Glad to hear about your daughters.  How old are they?

I want to invite you to join us in the "ladies' thread..."   It's where we discuss our daily lives, struggles, little triumphs, and support each other.  It's the best way of getting to know us here.  Hope to hear more!

Hi Sheri:

So sorry Hon that I left you out in welcoming you to the forum especially since you were the one to start it.  Both you and Gutsy need to know that you are NOT alone.  There is so much to learn about living with HIV and the ladies here in this forum great!

I have been HIV+ since 1989 and I am doing great  - my T's are 537t - My VL is undectabable.  One can live with this disease to have a long and fullfilled life especially now a days.  It is NOTHING like it was back in the earlier days.  There is so much more hope now.

Learn as much as you can, realize that lif are e is not over just because you are HIV+, learn to accept this disease as being part of your life but it does not have to be your life.  In other words, you have HIV but it does NOT have to have you.  Keep a positive attitude, listen to others that are living with this illness, see an AIDS specialist not just a general doctor and adhere to their suggestions.  If you start on meds, be compliant. These are just a few of the things to do.  Above all get involved in a great support system.  It really does help since a positive attitude is a must in living a long and healthy life in spite of HIV.
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced; live your life in such a manner that when you die, the world will cry and you will rejoice!
