Im really messed up right now..help

Hi everyone,i came on this forum and have found some really helpful info.my dilemma is i just found out in december i was hiv+ .i was 35 weeks pregnant  (decided to get tested later) and my vl was quite high therefore had baby 3 jan by csection ,im formula feeding and shes on meds for 6 weeks..however i couldnt tell my hubby as i didnt know how to  and all i kept thinking was 'hes gonna leave us' and also because he has a bit of a temper..anyhow the doctor decided she wants to keep the baby in neonatal for observation and her kidney and liver functions came back ok and not affected by the meds.

because my husband was getting too anxious at the staff and the doctor as to why they are keeping her and i have also decided to tell him tomorow in front of the gu consultant so he can explain a lot more..im soooo scared as to how he will react because of his temper.and the doctor said she wont release my daughter until i give disclosure and even after they have to make sure he wont be violent at home towards me and only then can my daughter be released..i feel so powerless and alone ..any words of encouragment or advice is helpful

HI clair0-
Congrats on your baby girl! This is such an exciting time!

Last month you found out that you were positive and this month you gave birth to your daughter. That is A LOT of stuff in a short period of time.

You are in the best place to be right now. You have people to support you when you tell him about something you had no idea exsisted till last month and it affects  you and possibly your daughter.  The doctors can answer all his questions and if doesn't ask them, you ask what you want to know.
 Try to stay calm.  You are the best advocate for your child and you want what is best for her in the long run, trust your gut.

Hello Clair,

Be sure to post in the womens forum as well, our ladies are really great. Congratulations on the baby girl!

Do you know if your husband might be positive? Do you have a support system outside of the hospital and your husband?

I'll let the others weigh in before commenting as I have not been in a situation comparable to yours. I hope this works out well for you and your family. Take it one day at a time and please stay in touch.

Hey Clair - congratulations on the birth of your baby!!  Did you have the AZT drip at birth?  I wasn't un-detectable at the birth of my boy 2 years ago (although I was on medication and close) and he's fine now, I did the same as you - C, Section and formula feeding.  Have you had the first result back yet?

As for the husband, if his reaction is violent when you've just given birth to his child then perhaps you need some space away from that so you can concentrate on your little girl.  This is a scarey time  - I nearly went crazy in that first month with worry and fear.  Keep talking, we'll help all we can xx
