I arrive thursday september 13 at 4:35pm...ugh im not looking foward to such a long flight....

Josh,

The easiest and cheapest way to get from SFO to the hotel is by BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit).

In the airport terminal, look for the signs to the "AirTrain" to the BART station.

Buy a BART ticket from the machines for $5.15 (or $10.30 if you want to use the ticket for the trip back to the airport).

The trains depart every 15 minutes. The train will be marked "Dublin/Pleasanton."

Get off at the Powell St. station. It's a 28-minute ride.

Look for the BART exit marked "Hallidie Plaza."

Take the escalator to the street level. You'll see the cable car turnaround. The hotel is at 17 Powell Street, to the left as you look up Powell St. from the cable car turnaround. The hotel is in the same building as the Sephora store.

The official address, 28 Cyril Magnin Street, is actually the back entrance. Vehicles can drop people off at that entrance; the first block of Powell St. is for the cable cars and is closed to other traffic.

For those arriving at Oakland airport (OAK):

Take the Bus to BART ($3.00), located outside the terminal. It's about a 20-minute ride to the Coliseum BART station in Oakland. From there, take the Daly City or Millbrae train to the Powell Street Station in San Francisco. It's a 23-minute ride from the Coliseum Station to Powell St. station. The BART fare is $2.35 each way.

NOTE: The Muni Passport, which will be part of the welcome package that Dennis is putting together, is not valid on BART.

Dizzy queen.    :D

Yeah- that will be me, too.  I'm going to need to go through all these info links and map out my plan for getting from my place to Powell St.

And I get in a few hours before Henry, but considering the Time Warps I tend to fall into, we'll probably reach the hotel at about the same time.

Josh, we will all be so happy to see you arrive, as well.

Milker, will have my laptop in tow on this trip.

Tim, as long as the front desk has record of your name, submitted by the person who booked the room, you'll be able to check-in at your arrival time.

Last year in Montreal there was an "unofficial' greeting committee standing outside the door of the hotel.  I'm not sure how many propositions RAB got but it must have been a whole slough full.  He started by himself and then as more and more of us showed up, we checked in then came back out on the street to wait for the next arrival.  I imagine that is how it will work this time also.  So if you see a bunch of no good beatniks, hanging out and looking like they'up to no good,....well, that would be us...your greeting committee.

See you there!!

I'll arriving in SFO at noon on September 12th.  If anyone else is arriving close this time and wants to share a cab...
I'm not sure I want to fight with public transportation and my luggage after an 8 hour flight.

Dennis,

BART is really a simple, comfortable, and painless way to get to the hotel. At the time you arrive, the trains will not be crowded, and the hotel is just a few steps away from the Powell St. station.

If you have unwieldy luggage, I believe you can take those luggage carts from the baggage claim right into the BART station.

I always use BART to get to and from SFO when I visit my mother in Florida.

A taxi would cost about $45.

Actually

bring a bag in the bag. Come with one luggage, and put another bag in it. If you buy stuff in SF you will be happy (and the airline will be too) not carrying a 100 lbs bag. And you won't have to pay extra.

Frenchman, you'd make the perfect AMG greeter; charming, winning smile, friendly and warm disposition. Especially if you do that exaggerated french tourist accent mode. Too funny.

Hey Josh
I'll be getting into SF an hour after you and I'm only bringing a carry-on bag, so I won't have to go through baggage collection. Although I will have to go through the joy of immigration, which can be quick or slow, depending on the direction of the wind or something. Anyways, if you want someone to hold your hand and help you get lost :D let me know...Btw way, I think my flight will be a tad longer than yours...I'm flying in from the UK...and via Chicago! Ooo the excitement! ;D

Ok, I'll play the good Samaritan, or the HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTESS.

I can pick up to 4 people arriving into SFO around 6pm.  The airport in on my way to the city, I will not be getting out of the way, plus, I decided to stay in the city for the weekend... Even though I live in the area, it is a 45 minute commute to the city and I will not drive if intoxicated, so I have no choice but to stay.

So....the 1st 4 to post interest get a ride on Thursday.  Again for arrivals around 6pm.

I am getting in around 1220 on the 13th, I will play greeter (just like I do on the airplane) at the hotel.  I can even do it alone, LOL.  Unfortunately I will be in uniform when I arrive (so I can bring all my liquids with me as crew members are exempt) but I will quickly change!
The difference between an overnight and a layover is luck!
