Today was the first time I have asked about my cd4%. I found out it was 4% at time of diagnosis in July 2012, with a cd4 count of 47. Two months ago it was 12%, and count of 183, vl undetectable. Is the low 4% any indicator of how much my immune system will ever recover? Kind of shocked to learn of the low number today. Don't know why my doctor had never mentioned it. Appreciate any replies.

Your trending in the right direction . I once had almost identical numbers and % that you have and Im now at the high 600 and mid 700 cd4 counts with 22 % .
Your doing well in a short time and should expect your labs to improve over time . It took awhile for me to get where I'm at because of long term infection and sub par treatments in the past . Its a slow and steady pace but you will improve , keep doing what you are doing because its working .

You're surprised your doctor didn't give you one more piece of bad news to process around the time of diagnosis? Give him or her a hug for knowing to stick with the important stuff when someone is in the first stage of care. There's plenty of time for the details of HIV. Congrats on your improving numbers.

Thank you both for the encouragement! Jeff, I began looking at people's % and didn't see anyone with as low a one as mine. Emeraldize, you are right. Just getting an initial aids diagnosis was quite enough in the beginning. Thankful I have this forum to ease the worry! :)

My CD4% at diagnosis was 9%. After almost two years on medication it's now reached 20%. I was hoping for a higher result this time but its stabilised and hopefully will go further still
