I recently had sex with a girl  who is a friend of mine. We had unprotected oral sex and then , because I am a complete and utter imbecile, I put myself inside her . I was in less than one minute, but it was unprotected.  I pulled out and put a condom on and then we continued with sex.  I am now very afraid because of my stupidity and because of what she revealed to me AFTER we finishedd having sex:  She tells me she was treated for oral thrush, showed me a list in her small pad  of guys she regularly sleeps with, must be about 30 names. She claims she uses condoms always but I figure if she allowed me in unprotected who is to say she did not with others. anyway, I do not mean to ramble..I hear I have to wait 13 weeks to be tested and that in that time I amy 'sero-convert' if I have caught Hiv. not sure if I am really asking anything, guess I just need to spount off my stupidity.

I really don't think you have to be overly worried about this situation. HIV is not an easy virus to transmit, particularly from female to male. Nevertheless, HIV is also not something to guess about so you do need to test 13 weeks from the date of this encounter.

You need to understand that there are other STD's such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea, which are far more infectious and prevalent than HIV. All sexually active people should have a full STD screen at least twice a year. If it's been a while since your last STD screen or if you've not had one before you should probably make an appointment with your doctor or local clinic. A full STD screen includes an HIV antibody test.

One other thing, the responsibility for protecting yourself from STD's and HIV rests with you. Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

strengthneeded,

Can I ask why you are using different usernames while posting to our forums? Thus far, you have also used whatdidIdo

Please realize that this kind of activity is disrespectful of other forum members, as well as our moderators. People spend a considerable amount of time helping others in these forums. Using multiple accounts is at the very least annoying, if not deceiving and disrespectful of others. It is also against our Terms of Membership which you agreed to when you became a member. This information is also contained within the Welcome Thread, which you should have read by now. So really, you have no excuse.

You must realize that the answers won't change, no matter how many names you post under.

I would appreciate a reply to this message, and I hope you will commit to using just one account - preferably your original one. If not, you will be banned from further access to the forums.

strength,

Write your login details down this time and keep them safe for future use. If you create a third account here, you WILL be banned, no questions asked. OK?

You have had a risk, albeit a small one, and you should test. It's unlikely that you would have been infected through this brief episode, but the only way to know for sure is through testing.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

I hope this is not too stupid of a question but here goes.........
If I am correct that hiv 'symptoms' do not show up until at least 2-4 weeks, if they show at all, what other diseases can one get and have a sore throat within a few days of the encounter?

strength,

If you went down on her, there is the possibility of getting gonorrhea or chlamydia in your throat, although this is fairly rare from cunnilingus. If you're worried about that, get your throat swabbed.

Has it occured to you that you may just have a common variety of sore throat that people get at this time of year?

And yes, seroconversion symptoms, if they happen at all, take at LEAST two weeks to show up.

Ann,

ty for replying.  I rarely get sore throats so I doubt it is a 'general' one. Also, she told me the guy she was with a few days before me told her he had gotten a sore throat after being with her as well...all he did was have mutual oral sex with her (she says).

Your risk was minimal in the incident you are concerned about. I have no real doubt that you will test negative.

Unfortunately right now you are practicing medicine on yourself without a license, which is very, very unhealthy to do. So you have a sore throat. And that's uncommon for you. Please believe me, that absolutely does not in any way equal HIV infection. No kidding.

You're (mis)interpreting everything that happens or doesn't happen now through HIV jitters mindset.

HIV is not an easy virus to transmit. It's very significantly harder to accomplish from female to male. Given a very brief and single incident such as you had, your testing negative is all but certain.

What you do have to learn from this experience is that you can have all the interourse you want to with as many partners as you like, and their HIV status is totally irrelevant. AS LONG AS YOU ALWAYS WEAR A LATEX CONDOM. Everytime. No exceptions and no excuses.

I expect you to come out of this ok. No kidding.

And I have to remind that you that neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms will ever tell you anything accurately about your HIV status.

There is absolutely nothing about what you are reporting which is in any way HIV specific. Really.

Tell your mind to give it a rest. I still expect when the time comes to test that you will very likely test negative. I can't say more than that because only a test result can give you the real answer.

Stay busy during the waiting time and it will pass more quickly than you can imagine at this moment.

Cheers,

A negative result at 13 weeks or more is sufficient. You are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

Get on with your life and forget about any more testing.

You can think all you want that doesn't make it fact. What is fact is that you are HIV negative. See your doctor or a dermatologist for your other symptoms because they have nothing to do with HIV.

Strength,

It is highly unlikely that you would have become infected from this:
Quote
I put myself inside her . I was in less than one minute
Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and more so from a woman to a man. No doctor would agree to put you on PEP following this incident.

You're just going to have to sit tight, test at the three month point and collect your inevitable negative result.

Burning nostril? Nothing to do with hiv.

I dont know anything about pennsylvania food service people but I would think its unconstitutional for the state to MANDATE HIV testing for a particular group.  The only one I know of regarding HIV is the PORN industry and THAT makes sense.

Now they MAY have to test for tuberculosis or something, but I dont see HIV testing as a mandantory thing.

Now, in regards to her period.  She would have had to have been bleeding ALL OVER YOU like BUCKETS of it for there to be even a SLIGHT risk. SO NO, you are not in any more danger.

Good luck.

Did you use a condom, or were you having unprotected intercourse again?

If you used a condom, it doesn't matter if she was on her period or not. A condom will protect even in the presence of menstrual blood.

If you were inside her without a condom, then you need to test. You know the drill - three months for a conclusive result.

These signs, aka the diarrhea and slight fever, etc that i am having seroconverting are they indicative of what and the severtiy of things I will go through in the future with this disease?

Also, after seroconverting will I be able to take  the test soonner than the 13 weeks?

Wait on your test results. HIV has NO specific symptoms.

How many times do you have to be told? The average time for seroconversion is 22 days, If you need to test at 6 weeks test and retest at 13 weeks to be conclusive.

2-4 weeks is the window period. During the window period you will receive a negative result. Please read the lessons found in the "Welcome" thread.

Rapidrod,

ty for replying...

This is from the lessons section>>>>>>>>>

In the period immediately after infection has taken place there aren't any specific symptoms. Within two to four weeks after exposure to HIV, a person might have flu-like symptoms such as fever, swollen glands, muscle aches, diarrhea, fatigue or rash. In rare instances they may occur within a few days after the exposure has taken place.

It has been 2 weeks and I have had some of those symptoms for the past 5 days....this is i why I say I am seroconverting.

Can I test next week or do I have to wait after 4-6 weeks to test?

Again HIV does NOT have any SPECIFIC symptoms. A test at 6 weeks might give you an idea what your 13 week will be, but you must test at 13 weeks to get your conclusive results.

Your bowel movements have nothing to do with HIV.  I'm positive and I didnt experience any of your symptoms.
