Title: Brief oral exposure with African prostitute
Post by: takefromme on September 14, 2011, 03:09:48 pm
Hello all,
I am an American currently living in an African country with an extremely high HIV rate. The other night I went out to a bar with some coworkers and got very drunk and had a humongous lapse of judgement. I've been in a monogamous relationship for 6 years. However, on this night, I met a local girl and we started dancing. Soon we ended up outside in a parking lot where she asked if I wanted sex. I declined. However, I agreed to a handjob, which I felt was a no-risk behavior. However, a minute or so in she put the head of my penis in her mouth for 1-2 seconds before I told her that I didn't want oral sex. She then proceeded to spit on her hand 2-3 times for lubrication until the encounter was over. Afterwards she asked me for money, and I immediately realized that she was a prostitute and that the chance of her having HIV was extremely high given the prevalence rate here. As this was all happening I was sort of in shock and the whole thing seemed dream like. I quickly rushed home within 10 minutes and covered my penis in antiseptic hand gel, then proceeded to take a shower. Now I am horrified that I may have contracted HIV, as I have read some medical case reports of HIV being contracted through insertive fellatio. Unfortunately, I will not be able to get tested until I leave the country in 6 months, since I work in the hospital that conducts testing here in the city and know everyone involved with the process. Since I am sure that you all deal with issues like this a lot I am seeking your expert opinion. I know I made a huge mistake, but do you think that I have contracted HIV?

Receiving oral is one of the most common of sexual activities. In the entire history of the epidemic there has never been a single confirmed case of transmission to a guy in that manner. You are not going to make history by becoming the first.

There is no cause for further concern nor any need for testing.

You need to know that the issue is not whom you are with whether a sex worker or a civilian or the ethnicity or race of the other person. It's what you do with  that person. The only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. Use condoms for those activities consistenly and you will be well protected. No exceptions.

Avoid mixing excessive dirnking with casual sex. It's a dangerours combination.

This time you have no cause for further concern about HIV. Other STDs are much easier to acquire so if you are sexually active we suggest that at least once a year having a full STD panel done is a good idea.
