Hi J, welcome to the forums.

Wow, talk about open ended questions! :D Where to start? Well, what do you want out of this site? I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you are hiv positive because after all, it's difficult to miss the fact that this is a site dedicated to life with hiv.

If you check out the Welcome Thread at the top of the Living With HIV forum, you will find links to the different sections of this website. The forums are really just the tip of the iceberg.

We often encourage new people to post their own thread in the Living With HIV Forum to introduce themselves. You can tell us as much or as little as you like, but the more you tell, the better we can help and support you. Not only will you get support here, but you can give support as well, and giving support has a way of making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.  8)

If you need help with the technical aspects of creating posts, check out the how-to guide. One way to find out what all the different things you can do and see here is to spend some time clicking on any links you can find, just to see what they do and where they lead. To find the links, just move your pointer around and portions of text or pictures will change in some way to alert you to the fact that they are links. Your pointer may also change too, depending on how your computer is set up. Point, click and be merry!  :)

One thing I notice was that you wanted to respond to a thread, but you created your own thread to do so. There are two ways to respond to a post so that it appears in the thread you are responding to:

1. Scroll to the bottom of the thread and look for a button that says "reply". This will bring up a new screen with a large dialogue box, complete with short cuts to all the fancy stuff like emoticons. ;D

2. Scroll a little further down and click on the "quick reply" button. This brings up a smaller dialogue box. This box doesn't have the short cuts available - you need to already know what code to use if you want fancy stuff in your post.

I can move the thread you started in response to Lwood's critter thread, so that it will appear at the bottom of Lwood's thread. I won't do this though until you read this and respond - just so I don't cause you any more confusion!

And don't feel bad that you didn't know how to respond to Lwood's post so it appeared in that thread. We were all new to internet forums at one time and I know I had help along the way in the early days too. So don't worry about it! ;)

Anyway, I'm glad you found us and I'm looking forward to hearing more from you. And if you have an more questions, feel free to ask.

Ann

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
