(UK) Travelling with Med, Lab Tests
« on: May 24, 2020, 02:34:40 pm »
Hi

I will be studying in the UK in Sept. Is it alright to bring 1 year worth of medication with me. I will bring a prescription with me.

One problem I am facing right now is the pharmacy stock expiry date is quite short so i probably might ask to ship half a year supply next year. Is there any problem with shipping ARVs?

and where can i test CD4 and VL in the UK with personal data protected? Certain countries in Asia, by law, need patient's data to be reported to the government immediately for contact tracing and (yes deportation!!!) once someone is diagnosed. Is there any place, outside NHS, where one can safely test labs with full personal data  protection (no reporting to Home Office).

I've not heard of people being deported from the UK for living with HIV. I also thought all HIV medications are provided by the NHS.

Maybe someone from the UK can chime in.

England has provisions for "free" to the end-user HIV medication including visitors since 2012. Other services may be charged for and things may change particularly with all the going on's in the UK so check with the local NGO.

Thanks I have already sent an email to THT
You can say I am paranoid.  I am worried that, if I go to NHS to take free ARV or do lab test, my data will be sent to Home Office. By doing that, I am worried that my future visa application or whatever will be accessed by Home Office in a biased way.

If you go that way, which is your choice and right, you will complicate your life and help to perpetuate stigma against people with hiv. good luck.
