Title: Symptoms persisting!
Post by: Hardtimebeleiving on June 11, 2013, 03:01:48 pm
Hi all,

Just over 3 months ago I had a potential exposure through protected vaginal and protected received oral with a African brothel worker in Prague. Although the condom stayed on and did not break until the end I was very drunk and not as observant as I would of been ordinarily. I have had a torrid time with the full list of symptoms except for fever and sore throat.

I live in the uk and have had the following test;

4 weeks, 4th gen duo - negative
6 weeks, 4th gen duo - negative
9 weeks, 4th gen duo - negative
12 weeks, 4th gen duo - negative

2 finger prick tests at weeks 4 and 9 also negative, all other std test returned negative.

The reason I am finding this hard to beleive is that after all this I still have bones cracking/popping a lot, my bruising has completely changed for pre exposure and also my veins all over have become so present all over my body. Also after safe sex with my girlfriend (I also gave her unprotected oral) she has had a bad outbreak of pimples all over her chest and face, especially bad when exposed to sunlight.

This has my heart racing has both sexual health consultants have ruled out hiv and stress that I can't pass on something I don't have.

Any information or support is greatly appreciated. I know anxiety an affect my own health but surely not someone else's,

Kind regards

Xx

Hi Hardtime , I'm not quite certain ... did you share with us that the condom did not break or that it did break at the end of intercourse ? .

Condoms fail catastrophically , meaning they are designed to fall apart so there is no doubt .

Hi jeff,

Their was no break, I took the condominium off at the end and it definitely stayed in tact!

Kind regards

X

I see , you didn't have a risk for HIV in that situation so if you are feeling poorly I would go see me doc about it it because its not HIV .

You can count you negative HIV test as conclusive if this is your only concern within 3 months of testing . I will repeat , you did not have a risk by any stretch of the imagination from having sex with an intact condom ... period ! .

I quoted your answer in my reply and removed your two comments so you can ask followup questions if need be . You have two more  ;) .

Thank you for your expertise jeff, it means so much.

Does a 12 week test result trump all symptoms, I'm not a drug user nor am I immune suppressed due to any other illness, surgery or medication?

Also one last question, can hiv be passed on through hair folliculs etc as the sex did include her being on top and possible that her secretions would of been on my genitals!

Thanks for all the great advice and support you have given!

Kind regards

HIV is transmitted via unproteced vaginal and anal sex , from mother to child during childbirth and through sharing IV drug injection equipment , so as long as you are using condoms for vaginal and anal sex you do not have to worry about HIV exposure .

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME for this incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

The symptoms you are having are not specific to HIV so go see your doctor about them because its not HIV related . Your symptoms my clear up once your realize you didn't have a risk for HIV , just saying LOL .

Hi all.

I had an exposure 5 and half months ago whilst in Prague. I had protected oral and vaginal intercourse with a African sex worker. As I was very drunk at the time I don't know if the condom slipped or not but can guarantee that it did not break and was still covering my penis head after withdrawal.

I have had several tests up to the 3 month mark all of which returned negative results, they were as follows:

Rapid insti tests at weeks 4 and 9
4th gen duo tests and 2, 4, 6, 9 and 12 weeks.

Also tested out to week 12 for all std's. The reason i can't get over this exposure is that I have had all but fever and sore throat so call symptoms of ars. I am still suffering from clicking joints, warm feeling to skin, warm sensation in left foot, random pins and needles in hands, white covering on tongue, badly receding lower gum line, swollen glands behind knees, armpits and under jaw and vey visible veins the full length of my body and foamy urine.

Further to this my girlfriend is showing very similar symptoms including poor gums, clicking joints and skin outbreaks on face. Should I retest in these circumstances even though my docs tell me 12 weeks is fully conclusive regardless if symptoms and exposure risk

Sorry for long post
Kind regards xx

Whatever is going on symptomatically with you and your gf has nothing to do with HIV. You have reliably tested negative for HIV. You ARE HIV negative. Period. End of that story.

You both need to be talking with your doctor(s) to find out what the real cause of your symptoms might be. It is NOT HIV.

Really. And HIV does not become the culprit by default simply because you haven't had a proper diagnosis of the real cause.

You were told two months ago that you are conclusively hiv negative. You were also told that if you felt unwell, to see a doctor because you've already ruled hiv out as a possible cause.

You do not have hiv, so quit chasing a virus you do not have.
