Acids in Food and Complera
« on: November 27, 2016, 01:58:09 pm »
Hi forum friends!

I have posted a few times, here I go again. I have been recently diagnosed so adjusting to a new life style has been hard for me. I have been on Complera and even though my doctor did not say anything about foods I should avoid while taking Complera, I am still worried about one: the foods that contain acids, like citrus fruits (lemons, grapefruits, oranges etc), and acidic supplements like vinegar. I have heard somewhere that acids may inhibit the work that Complera does. For two days I ate meat and to spice it up I used vinegar, a lot, on it. Do you think I worry too much or there is some truth to it? I'd really appreciate your input!

Hi

You are way overthinking this, spicing up you food for two days is not the end of the world. There is tones of viniger on chips here so avoiding it would not happen as part of a normal steady Irish diet of fastfood and crap.

Look there are things to avoid such some indigestion meds and other suppliments as in tablets and fortified items . I normal check drugs.com for interactions for myself, however eating the odd orange is not going to kill you.

Look don't take my word for it speak to your doctor.

Jim

It's the ant-acids you should avoid ie the things you use to reduce acidity in the stomach.

Acid stomach environment is perfect for Rilpivirine.

Talk to your doctor of course but the link above I gave mentions antacids under Significant Interactions.

Table 4 Established and Other Potentially Significant Drug Interactions: Alteration in Dose or Regimen May Be Recommended Based on Drug Interaction
Studies or Predicted Interaction

antacids  (e.g., aluminium, magnesium hydroxide, or calcium carbonate)

rilpivirine antacids taken at least 2 hours before or at least 4 hours after
rilpivirine)

rilpivirine (concomitant intake) The combination of COMPLERA and antacids
should be used with caution as coadministration

Antacids should only be administered either at least 2 hours before or at least 4 hours after COMPLERA.

Since i took mine at midnight and my daily dose is 9 am i am good.
