Title: I'm Always Friggin' Tired?
Post by: AdverseAdvocate on October 13, 2008, 01:21:49 pm
New to the Forums.

Currently on Truvada and Kalerta, Lovenox (liver disease, in check), Mepron (PCP) and a lot of antidepressants and some supplements.  On Friday I slept for 13 hours - that's not right?

Anything I can eat or NOT eat to health me gain stamina?!

Hey Adverse,

Welcome to the forums.

I don't know what your counts are, but if you're getting over PCP, liver disease etc., they could probably be attributable to your sleepiness.

I would suggest seeing an HIV nutritionist.  Your doctor should be able to refer you to one.  I'm no expert at these kind of things, but perhaps some other members will chime in.  When I went through wasting years ago, I used Boost to help put a little weight on and keep up a bit of energy.  Good luck.
      luv,
Betty

Hi Adverse

If you are getting over pneumonia, you need that sleep.  It can take a month or two to get to the point where you don't need extra sleep after pneumonia (at least it did for me).

If you are only on a prophylactic for pneumonia because tcell counts are low, that might be a reason for fatigue as well.  Have you been on HAART long?  Many find they get additional energy after the first few weeks.

Other things to check for include:
 - depression
- reduced testosterone levels
- insufficient exercise
- nutritional deficiencies
...
Its important to let your doctor know what you are going through and to be forceful about the need for a solution.

Hope you feel more energetic soon.

Sleep initially is necessary to renew your cells from the battles in your body. Eventually it will stabilise. I still get tired too occasionally after 3 years of being positive. I take a host of supplements to help (I'm not on meds yet). The ones that seem to help somewhat as far as my body is concerned, are:

Multivit
B12 (FYI Trivia: Madonna injects hers for her energy boost.. ;) )
Bee Propolis & Pollen
Royal Jelly
Lots of juices: Carrots, Beet Root, Bitter Melon
Green Tea Daily
Shilajit

PS: Try not to keep late nights. I found it challenging to compensate for late nights (past midnight) even if I sleep in for extra hours. 8 hrs is ideal but some can live on 6. Good luck.

Hi Adverse,

I'm not on meds yet so I can't offer perspectives there, but I think that just having HIV is tiring too.

I spoke to my doctor about it and he mentioned that through mild anxiety and just thinking of HIV gives one more to think about in one day, therefore it's kind of like having 2 days in one. That seemed to make sense to me, so am trying to 'forget' about the virus as much as I can; live in the moment.

I know it's nothing compared to recovering from pneumonia and the med effects, but that's just my 2 cents worth.

Auspoz.

Adverse, if you're thinking of taking supplements, please check with your doctor first.
