Hey Jeff - I checked out good ol Consumer Reports - (yup I am nerdy alright) they recommend this one: GE JE1460F.  And bonus, it was a Best Buy.

And that's all I know bout microwaves.   ::)

as my kitchen is the last room to be remodeled, I have a $69 white Emerson from Walmart that's about 4 years old. I think microwave quality is pretty comparable, so just get what looks pretty in your kitchen-lol

I gotta go with LongIslander on this one -- get whatever you can that is reasonably priced and has the features you want (for me that is a microwave that has a built in carousel to turn the contents around while being blasted with those deadly rays).

I've spent $500 on a microwave which broke within 2 years and used a cheapie (under $200) which lasted longer and currently I use a mcrowave cast off by a couple of friends because the digital readout is screwed up so you never know exactly how long you've set the fucker to do its job (one simply must be diligent to insure that popcorn doesn't get burned and when baking potatoes or other veggies I stay close by to be sure I didn't punch in 100 minutes instead of 10).  My microwave has several automatic buttons (e.g., heat a beverage, reheat a casserole, etc.) so I can safely punch a button or two and return to my womb-like bedroom before coming back downstairs to retrieve the satisfactorily heated contents.

That's my 2 cents, at any rate.

I just bought a GE one also. This thing is amazing. I think it is smarter than I am. It even tells you when your popcorn is done instead of you standing there listening. I also am able to defrost things without them cooking somewhat. It is large which is nice for putting larger items in there. I could go on and on lol

I have a GE spacemaker, and its a real MO FO,  the sensor reheating mode manages to warm stuff up perfectly, without the 'cold in the middle and blistering Hot on the Outside'  effect that alot of them have.  Id go with the Consumer reports reccomendation though,
