Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

OK,

Before we begin I'm reasonably well versed on HIV and HIV acquisition....

Now - has anyone had 2 condoms fail in a row? - that's right 2!

Well that happened to me on Saturday morning - 3/4 days ago from now.

The girl I was with - although not technically a CSW (correct me if I'm wrong), she still slept around. With or without condom - I'm not sure. But in a nutshell she is a part time bar girl (30 yrs of age but as my doctor put it - very well preserved).

Anyhow my question is - and lets speculate on this: what are the theoretical chances of myself contracting HIV from this encounter?

So the background - I took her out last week and we had protected sex. I took her out this week (IE past weekend) and we also had protected sex - but condom failed 2 times! In the morning I took her to a clinic and we both tested negative for HIV.

According to her in the past 2 months she was out with 2 other guys and with one she had protected sex (I did not ask dates as I was already pushing my luck).

So let the debate begin... as I find this truly a unique situation. But also can see others falling into this type of situation - most probably not with the same degree of bad luck as me.

The only way to know if your are positive is to test at the appropriate . You cannot rely on another persons HIV test as an indicator of your risk because of the seroconversion window period and trying to rely on what someone tells you about their risk or past negative results . 

You had a risk and can test 6 weeks past the incident and again at 3 months to confirm the results . Its not complicated , the condom broke and now you must test . Although its rare for broken condoms to result in a HIV infection for the insertive partner its still a low risk that you will have to test over .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
