Help !
« on: June 12, 2008, 11:40:37 am »
So a month ago I engaged in anal sex on the recieving end. I am not sure if a condom was used. However since then, probabaly a week after I have been having the following symptoms: headache, nausea, lightheadedness, blurry vision, fatigure, a disconnection for reality, dizziness, and anxiety. I was wondering if these symptoms are indicative of an HIV infection. Anything you all can tell me would be usefull, adn yes I know I just need to go get tested, however, the idea of having the  test done basically reders me incompacitated. On another note, my BF with who I also have unprotected sex, feels fine and had had absolutely no symptoms. Thanks for your help.

jdw,

If you're not in a monogamous relationship where you have both tested hiv negative together, you need to make absolutely CERTAIN condoms are being used.

Symptoms or even the lack of symptoms mean nothing where hiv is concerned. Many people have been infected and haven't a clue because they have no symptoms. The ONLY way to know your accurate hiv status is to TEST. For this reason, we do NOT discuss symptoms here. If you're feeling unwell, see your doctor.

A test a three months past your last unprotected intercourse - and this includes with your boyfriend - will be conclusive. The earliest you should test is at six weeks, as the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by this time.

I cannot stress this enough - you and your boyfriend need to use condoms until you are BOTH certain of your respective hiv status. Hiv status is NOTHING to guess about and as I said, just because you've always felt well doesn't mean a thing if you've been putting yourself at risk through unprotected intercourse.

I have been to see a doctor. Apparently viral infection wasnt high up on his list of suspected inllnesses, as he didnt check for any. I think it is just difficult as I have not felt well in a month. Thank you for your help and information. It is very helpful.

I'm so glad that you went to see your doctor about your recent symptoms, but it is no substitute for regular HIV tests.

I know testing can be a very stressful-  but it pales in comparison to the stress of never really knowing...

Please, get tested-
:)

And I know I can speak for everyone here, we'd love to know your results are negative.  Even if the results are positive, we'll be here for you ever step of the way!
