Finally Recognized By The 'Advocate'
« on: June 24, 2015, 01:27:46 am »
Okay, it's not the hardcopy, but it was their website.  We were featured in their online slideshow of Pride.  My mom, Brian's parents, and my brother and his partner went.  I am so fortunate to have such a supportive family.  They look forward to us marrying, more than we.  They also tell us we would make great parents and want us to continue to think about that.  It breaks my heart, when I hear others don't have that.  I was just reading about a 15 year-old, who was disowned by his family.  Many say it is about education, but my mom grew up in a small KY town and didn't make it out of elementary school.  It is really about whether you have love or hate in your heart.

I was disappointed some of our group didn't make the photo.  We got separated.

Congratulations.
Thank you for showing the nice photo.  Everyone looks happy.
I am far from Kentucky but a KFC store is
in my neighborhood.  I can hear the melody of OLD KENTUCKY HOME from the store.

My mom and Brian's mom with the ladies.  The one on the far left is Estée Dee.  Took me about 20 seconds to get it.

Got to meet Shane.  Many of you will recognize him from the documentary, "Bridegroom."

I know KFC is big in Asian countries, no?  Their headquarters is just a few miles from my home.  They were part of the parade and a sponsor.  YUM Brands is the corporate name, which consists of KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and some others.  I am surprised you have heard our state song.  Didn't know it was that known.  They left the part about everyone being so gay in the song, while removing the parts about slaves-- which the song referred to as "darkies."

Hi again.
KFC is big business here and in Japan, all the KFC stores play the music of OLD KENTUCKY HOME.
Most of the JAPANESE will say they know it when asked.

About thirty years ago,  some mischievous group abducted the COLONEL SANDERS character from the store front in a truck and later one of the members called the store saying,  Hey kido, it's me.  I am lost.  Come and pick me up.

And CARRY ME BACK to OLD VIRGINIE is also well-known here.
And when l was in elementary school in Tokyo, we learned to sing CAMPTOWN LADY SING A SONG, OLD BLACK JOE,  and OH SUZANNA, too.  Maybe the EDUCATION Ministry had adopted American culture in our post war educational programs.   Two more melodies that most Japanese people know,   BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC and SHALL WE GATHER AT THE RIVER.

Anyway thank you for sharing the nice photos.

I love that photo, and your mum looks like she was having the time of her life.

A mothers love has no boundaries, it's pure and unconditional, at least it should be.
