Interesting conversation I had today
« on: November 21, 2006, 06:23:28 pm »
So here I am still visiting my family in no-where, USA. I run into a long time friend that I have had for the last five years. I have not seen her since I moved last year so it was great. She sees my growing tummy and asks how the pregnancy is going. I tell her great but I am poz. She looks at me, smiles and says, Me too.  I think my jaw dropped. This is someone I never would have suspected and we were so close. I asked her when she found out and she told me it was 7 years ago with her first pregnancy. She now has three children.
It was amazing to me that she never said anything about it to me. She told me that she has only told three people other than her dr. and husband. She met her husband four years ago and he is just great. Out of curiousity I asked if he was poz too but he is not.
Long story short, here is someone that has lived with the virus yet it has not taken over her life. It was so inspirational for me to see her with a happy family and hope for a long life. She said that she has not had meds other than when she was pregnant.
Here was a face of HIV that I never suspected!

It's strange, but I sometimes wonder when I am in a group of people if someone shares my status.

Being that you are new to this, seeing this woman who has had it for seven years must have really been an inspiration to you....  It's crazy, but when we were negative seeing someone like her would have probably brought some pity on her situation.  Now these things give us strength and I guess that is how we help each other along in the journey.

Keep your chin up, it will only get better..

Trying, that's a great moment you had there with your old friend. The kind of thing that can turn your head around in a good way.

Cheers,

Hi there

That is why HIV education is so important because you can't tell just by looking at someone.

Now that you have made the reconnection with your friend you can add her to your support team...and we all know how important that is, being able to talk to someone who is close to you and going through the same things can do wonders for both your physical and mental health...I'm glad to hear your friend is doing well...and you of course, I look forward to hearing more from you.

Wishing you both the best of health.

Hugs
Jan :-*

I am glad your friend told you straight away. She is going to be of great help to you and her story is an inspiration for all of us.
She must be planning to see her children grow old, get married and become a grandmother.
It is wonderful!

Hey Tryingforhope,

As you have witnessed, it was a very good reason for you and your friend of (5) five years to run into each other. In fact, through her taking the initiative to share with you a delicate part of her life is truly inspirational. In fact, this meeting had come at a time in your life when you needed it the most. You will definitely want to exchange contact information and stay in touch with her so that you both can relate and share with each other. What an excellent way to add to your current support system!

I wish you the BEST in all of your endeavors!

Make the BEST of each Day!
