Does anyone know about Dr. Neibart in NYC?
« on: August 10, 2009, 05:19:41 am »
Hiya folks,

I am curious, does anyone know Dr. Neibart?  Meaning, does anyone know of him and have any experience with this ID doc?  I would like any info you can spare please.

Thanks,
M

He is in NYC..

I don't mean for this to come across as snarky/bitchy, but while I understand the desire to get information about a potential new doctor and the anxiety involved in trying to find somebody you can trust with your care/life, I don't know that a nation/international online forum is the place to look for personal first-hand information about a particular provider.

Have you asked your GP (if you have one) about him?   How is it that you've come to identify this doctor as a possible ID doc?

Have you contacted your local ASO (e.g. GMHC) to ask if they can point you toward sources of information?

Have you searched about on the internet yourself to find his website and where he's done his training and who his colleagues are?

Have you called his office and told the receptionist that you're considering becoming a new patient of his and wondering if you can schedule a half-hour "get acquainted" appointment?  (Some doctors will make such appointments.  Some won't.  Some prospective patients can learn all they really need to know by hearing "The doctor doesn't make those sorts of appointments.")

Finally, if my response to your post had instead consisted of simply "I've been his patient for years and he's great!"  or "He's the biggest jerk I've ever met.  Avoid him at all costs.", would you have accepted either at face value?

Good luck.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to know if anyone has had firsthand experience with a doctor.

Of course I don't think one should take one person's opinion and base a decision on a doctor based on that. There are other things to consider, but asking for opinions can definitely be one part of the process when trying to make a decision.

"...while I understand the desire to get information about a potential new doctor...I don't know that a nation/international online forum is the place to look for personal first-hand information about a particular provider"

If you read/understood what I wrote above, you'd see that I did not say/imply that there was something "wrong" with wanting to know if anyone had firsthand experience with a doctor.  I just questioned whether this was the correct place to look for that information (because such a small number of the readers of this forum live in NYC).  I then suggested alternative ways for him to get the information he's seeking.

While he's at it, why doesn't he post a question in the forum asking if anybody knows which subway line to take to get to this doctor's office?

Ok ok....so, I did not do it the way you would have.  Please forgive my insensitivity for not considering your feelings on the matter before I actually put out the question.  It was extremely rude of me to not realize that you might take issue with it.  Therefore, Moderators, please strike from the record my original post and let there be no record of my dastardly ways.  Let it go down in the Forum archives that I MPositive, has committed a horrible Forum crime.  I should be flogged, I should whipped, I should be stripped of all my rights as an individual.....shame on me for assuming there may be someone who this doctor, shame on me I say.
Hey, how about those Yankees by the way, they are kicking butt....shame on me for mentioning those Yankees for there may be a Red Sox fan (HIV+ of course) that may take offense.

ok ok.....enough....I surrender.

Keep smiling folks.....

M,
There's nothing awry with seeking info on a doctor the way you chose. If it's provided and you choose to use it, more power to you. Though Sid's suggestions might be helpful, don't let them dismiss what you seek ... info on a physician you might be considering. If you see that ID doc, I hope it's a good match for you and he/she is competent and compassionate in your care. Stay healthy and keep asking questions. -YaKa

I don't think this an inappropriate topic to raise at all, but I do think it would have been more helpful to put the name of the physician in the subject line so that folks could quickly determine whether they have any info to contribute to the post.

Nash and Yaka,

Thank you both for your encouragement.  That is a great idea, I should have put it in the subject line.

You still can. The edit window of opportunity is 48 hours. To edit your post/thread title, click on the "modify" button in the upper-right-hand corner of your post.

For the record, I also don't see anything wrong with asking for opinions about this doctor from those who may know him. I always get any available info when I'm seeing a new doctor - but where I live, it usually just means asking around town. One benefit to living where everyone knows everyone else.

LOLOL ...

If you use search function, there are few very good recommendations for this doctor. Unfortunatley he doesn't accept my insurance.

If you look real close, you will see those recommendations are me!  I am in search of more info as I am having some.....well, not doubts, because I think he is great, but I was hoping to talk to someone else that has had experiences with him.  So, we shall see......

I also don't think that mpositive was out of line for asking for information about this doctor on this site but whatever...

mpositive, I am in NYC but unfortunately don't have any first-hand knowledge about this doctor.  I will, however, reach out to some friends that may.  I will PM you once I hear back from them.  I hope this helps.

  Mpositive,

I commend you for doing a lil research on someone who is going to play a part in your battle against this disease.  Nothing wrong with that....   Unfortunately I know nothing about either Dr. Neibert or NYC. ;)

My first doctor first doctor I had was Dr. Elena Castro in Miami.  I got a few negative stories regarding this woman from some people here on the forums whom she had cared for.  To me though, she was God and from the care I have received since leaving Miami I have only come to appreciate her even more.

Hey there,

I'm also in NYC. I just went to my ID for the first time today. His name is Dr. Michael Mullen. He came highly recommended from two people, so I took a chance. I liked him a lot so far.

I know that isn't exactly what you're looking for, but in case you decide to look at another doctor, I thought this might help give you some direction.

Good luck!

Hi M - I used to live in NYC and saw a doc named Dr. Paul Bellman.  He was really great and so are the rest of his staff.  His office is near Union Square.
