Colonoscopy
« on: August 14, 2016, 07:54:16 am »
I had my first colonoscopy since diagnosis last week and they found polyp 30mm cut it out and now they say it was precancerous.. it was in the area where the large intestine meet the small one.. I checked and that's a very big polyp as far as polyp size goes..
They are suggesting I do it again in six months.. and now been having the runs that I can't seem to shake off.. Has anyone gone through this with aids? I'm thinking maybe I got cancer now.

Hi

Sorry to hear that. I had 8 removed all precancerous, So I know it's no picnic.
As for the runs, it should settle but do check with your doctor.

Take it easy.

Jim

Edit. Last time it took my bowls about 4 weeks to settle down to normal, no joke.

I was gonna ask my doc if I should take a probiotic pill bc I'm on bactrim and maybe I've lost too many good bacteria maybe?

Yeah, as wade said yogurt, it worked for me.

My own experience (I am not claiming anything scientific) is it helped me get back on course so to speak fast and I still eat a 500 gram (1.1 pound) tub of yogurt a day with bio-live cultures (Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus acidophilus + streptocccus thermphilus) . Sine doing that I have no more problems with the "runs".

Small correction, I just gabbed a tub and its 450 Gram tub (0.99208 lb)

Why would you think you have cancer simply because of having a precancerous polyp?  That's a lot of needless worrying.  Even if they become malignant does automatically mean anything critical.  Unless they have metastasized, they can remove cancerous polyps.

My belief is that they should change the guidelines of when people should start having colonoscopies.  The recommendation for men is to start at age 50.  I wouldn't have made it to 50 if I hadn't insisted on one due to bleeding out my rectum.  I was fortunate that the cancer had not spread to the surrounding tissue yet.
If the test in 5 months shows not additional ones, I BELIEVE the recommendation is to have one every 2 years.  Once a cancerous one (not precancerous) the recommendation is yearly.
Being honest is not wronging others, continuing the dishonesty is.

It's been past the six months the doctor had suggested to do the next  colonoscopy. I dread it.. that crap they make you drink is so disgusting and not a fan of the low fiber diet either.

I guess it's to see if the polyp grew back or to see if I got cancer but whatever, gotta do it or perhaps regret it later.

Hope it hasn't come back.
