Title: what´s safe, what´s not
Post by: tropical on August 20, 2008, 07:04:37 am
we are a serodiscordant male couple, I am neg, he is pos. I would like some information about some safe sex practice, please.
He status is undetectable, he does not have precum.
what are the risks envolved in these practice without condom.

rimming -  to have his saliva inside my ass - to have my tongue inside his ass.
sucking - to have him sucking my penis - to have his penis in my mouth.
throat sex - to have my penis inside his throat.

thanks

Tropical,

Saliva is not infectious, so you're in no danger from him putting his mouth/tongue anywhere on/in your body.

For you to give him a blowjob is more a theoretical risk than a real one. Although there are people who claim to have been infected this way, it's never been conclusively proven to be the case. With his undetectable viral load you should be fine, but it's something you'll have to decide for yourself. For you to have him in your mouth without ejaculation or precum is not a risk.

There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

The mouth is a veritable fortress, standing against all sorts of pathogens we come into contact with every minute of our lives. It's a very hostile environment and saliva has been shown to contain over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv.

Hiv is a very fragile virus - literally. Its outer surface doesn't take kindly to changes in its preferred environment; slight changes in temperature, moisture content and pH levels all damage the outer surface. Importantly, it needs this outer surface to be intact before it can latch onto a few, very specific cell types and infect.

Also, hiv can only latch onto certain types of cells, cells which are not found in abundance in the mouth.

Have a read of our HIV Transmission Lesson (http://www.aidsmeds.com/lessons/Transmission1.htm) Please also read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.
