Some questions.
« on: April 21, 2014, 02:22:15 pm »
Hello,

About two months ago I had an experience with an individual that I did not know was hiv+ until after the fact.

Long story short he entered me for about a minute or two and then stopped--no ejaculation occurred.  Was a drunk night.   Most regrets are.   After he told me he was hiv+, undetectable and taking ARE medication.

Naturally I was upset and anxious so I started, and since completed, PEP TRUVADA with issentress.   I had 100% adherence to truvada and missed 4 of the second doses of issentress.

My question is simple:  is PEP effective?   I get tested every six months typically and am other wise disease/std free.   I finished my PEP  routine at the end of March.   I'm anticipating testing again in mid May.   My doctor said given the situation , adhering to pep and no ejaculation with him being undetectable my chances are close to 0.

Thank you.

Gabriel,

PEP is effective when taken properly and you missing 4 doses of the Issentress will not change that fact.  While you did have a risk, the risk was considered minimal and I fully expect you to receive a negative result, when you test in May.

I would agree with your doctor.

Joe
