Roosevelt Reception

I received an email from Tracey from the Roosevelt Hotel.  A member contacted her regarding holding a reception.  However, she misplaced your contact information.

If this was you, please give her a call back.

dennis

that was me.  Thanks.  I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here but I thought I would call to see what she has to offer.  I called her this past Monday and was waiting for her call back. I was going to call her again tomorrow if I had not heard from her.  I'll give her a buzz.  There is also a steak house down the block with private dining rooms that I'm also in touch with.

Any negotiating tips you can offer?

Thanks, Robert. You're not stepping on any toes here.  My partner and I opened a hair salon in February so my time has been pretty eaten up by that and school.

As far as negotiating, I'd have to see what they are offering in regards to menu pricing and deposit requirements.  Feel free to forward me any information they send you and I'll be more than happy to help you out.

Thanks Dennis and Robert for everything you are doing and have done to this point in getting AMG Seattle 2011 up and going --- my time has been being taken up with work project and making sure mom is doing okay after dad's passing..... I should be back on track within a week or two here...  Thanks again --- and a big thanks to the other members on Grants Committee for handling various things during my little "outage" here  ---- It is definitely going to be an AMG to remember - but, then again, aren't they all?  ;D

hi folks....

I'm in the process of setting up our Meet and Greet.  The reception will be held at Von's Roasthouse which happens to be conveniently located in our hotel. (Mucho gracia to "Bug" (buginme2) for the recommendation.    We will have own private room with a cash bar and appetizers.  Right now I have booked the room for Friday, Aug. 19.  In Gatherings past we have had the reception on Friday night but we are not committed to this.  If you prefer another night please let me know.

If you want to see what appetizers are offered, go to their website, click on 'menu', then Bar Starters..  Joel, the assistant manager, recommends everything but the Crispy Wild Salmon Tacos (they get soggy), the Fried Brie (it gets hard), the Bloody Mary Prawn Cocktail (only 1 prawn per serving) and the Roast House Smokey Chilaquiles (that also get soggy.)  Now just because he doesn't recommend then does not we can't have them.

Please look at the menu and reply back to this thread on what tickles your fancy so I can get an idea of how much to order of any particular appetizer.

I am estimating the cost of the Meet and Greet to be $20.00 per person. The final price depends on the number of people attending and the menu.  The estimate does not include tax or tip.  And, like I said, it will be a cash bar.

I will be talking to Joel again in as couple of weeks so don't dilly dally.

Thanks.....robert

Seafood is a no no for me, so I'm liking Odyssey's choices.  But this restaurant does a good job on most everything.  So whatever choices are made I suspect it will be great.

Thanks Robert for moving this forward.  See you in the "Emerald City"

I would like to say that I have a penchant for seafood, but in light of Odyssey and RAB's choices maybe we should have only one seafood item. Since you can get calamari most anywhere, maybe we should go for salmon since it's native to the area. Not that you can't get anything anywhere if you pay enough, but just more with the theme/locale, I think.

I  like the  whole  menu  so  whatever is  most  representative of the area is  good with me.... do  we have  any vegetarians  coming this  year?   ...is  there a predominant  ethnic  group in Seattle.... ?????? something special  like  Russian??

Hi Nick.

Like Basquo said, salmon is the native food of Seattle.  Not sure if there is a particular ethnic group that has claims on Seattle.   When it comes to vegetarians, we have the Thai Veggie Spring Rolls and the Crudite an "...Array of Chilled Garden Vegetables with Ranch Dressing."

Basquo, don't worry about what others are eating.  What's great about this place is that the kitchen is in the back room and as we run out of platters, we just order another one and before you know it, there will be a platter of Bay Calamari just for you and Nick and Will  If it's on the menu, you can have it.  Jason, the manager, just wants to get an idea of how much food we're going to eat so that's why I'm asking what people want.

Just to note, I really don't eat seafood either. I'm trying to stick to mainly healthier plant based foods but the others I listed sounded like nice "treat" items!

The Thai Spring rolls or the crudite might work.

It will depend on what they put in the rolls and if I can avoid or leave off the ranch dressing.

Everything else is pretty much off limits for me. I would love the salmon, but I can't have it the way its prepared, according to the menu.

But I can always try to grab a bite before hand.

HUGS,

Mark

I'm a sometimes raging celiac, but cheating isn't an option, which is why salmon dredged in flour, or anything that is battered or breaded won't work.

I live on fish or vegetarian meals most of the time, but I usually have to make them myself. I can, and sometimes do, cheat on the cholesterol though. ;)

There's very few foods I won't eat, so I am OK with any of the selections above.  Seafood and vegetables are great.  If I really have a hankering for meat, I'm more than capable of finding my own steak / BBQ / side-of-beef.  (Let the jokes about "meat" begin).

I'm a sausage man myself - I just adore them. Mexican, Portuguese, Polish, or even the British bangers.

I just have to make sure with what they have been stuffed. (I dare anyone to touch this!)

That said, I usually do very well with Thai spring rolls, or most Thai things.  ;)

I am sure it will be fine! Besides, they have adult beverages there as well, and I don't have to drive anywhere.

The whole list sounds good to me and Sid (minus the Salmon -- just can't acquire a taste for that).
I especially like the Loin o' pork potstickers.

Nothing better than loins and porks! (I just had to stick the theme going on here).
