Title: PEP OPINION!! PLEASE HELP..STILL WITHIN 24 HOURS
Post by: scareddude21 on December 09, 2006, 10:49:44 am
hello I engaged in a somewhat risky behavior.  last night. i let someone dip in me..he put his dick in without a condom for like 15 sec..then he took it out..then he put it in again for 15sec then took it out..then he put it in for about 60 secs and he pushed it in and out (sex)..but then he took it out..there was no ejaculation at all because it took him about 30 min to jerk off after he had slipped it in.  im just worried about the possibility of precum.  i was highly lubricated and so was he and I don't think i felt the precum on the tip of his penis ( i kept touching the tip when he withdrew making sure there was no precum) but the tip did feel damp (even tho it could've been the wetness of lube) anyway the reason why im so scared is because he told me that he has been hiv+ for 5 years and has a viral load of 2000.  I'm worried now.  He did NOT ejaculate inside me at all..but his precum may have oozed out.. i'm not sure..anyway this was last night..should i consider PEP?  and if so..how can I obtain it?  I'm under my mom's insurance plan but I don't want her knowing about this.. could i pay for the drugs out of pocket?  please help!!!!

Read the lessons that the links can be found in the "welcome thread." Can you get PEP probably. Do you have the cash for the meds. Depending on what is given will be somewhere around the 700 bracket for a 28 day supply. Which ever way you proceed you will need to be tested. 13 weeks after exposure or 13 weeks after you've taken you last dose of medication. You should know that most people don't finish the drugs due to the side effects. Anyway you go you will need to test. PEP is not guaranteed to prevent hiv even if you complete the 28 days of medication. It would only have taken a condom to have prevented this.

so Rapid..what should I do?  Do you think I should go for the PEP?  his viral load isnt that high..and we only had sex for one minute and i doubt the lining of my rectum was damaged.  where can i obtain the drugs at?  also i forgot to mention that we did in fact have intercourse WITH a condom like 20 min prior..but then he wanted to feel me on the inside raw..he was very gentile...wouldn't my risk have been extremely high if he came inside of me?

Unprotected anal sex is risky, period. You need to go to your doctor today or an emergency room to get a script.

okay I will go to the ER tonight.  did you say it'd be 700 dollars with or without health insurance?  i have insurance but its under my mom and i dont want her to know so I can pay for it out of my own pocket..i have about 6 grand in the bank so it shouldnt be a problem.  i know its risky but do I definitely have the disease?  he couldve not have precum at all..and i could be worryin for no reason...i dont wanna waste money and time for something that might not be an issue..

I guess it would depend on your co-pay.

Go talk to your doctor about this or a ER doctor. Wasting your time trying to make your mind up online is stupid. Go talk to someone who can actively make key decisions about your medical health and not rely on some people on an internet forum.

scareddude21,

Can I ask why you are using different usernames while posting to our forums? Thus far, you have also used darealdealbrotha (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=5483.0)

Please realize that this kind of activity is disrespectful of other forum members, as well as our moderators. People spend a considerable amount of time helping others in these forums. Using multiple accounts is at the very least annoying, if not deceiving and disrespectful of others. It is also against our Terms of Membership (http://forums.poz.com/Terms.htm) which you agreed to when you became a member. This information is also contained within the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0), which you should have read by now. So really, you have no excuse.

You must realize that the answers won't change, no matter how many names you post under.

I would appreciate a reply to this message, and I hope you will commit to using just one account - preferably your original one. If not, you will be banned from further access to the forums.

You will need to pick up another two week supply. It must me taken for 28 days. You do know that it is not a guarantee that you will not get infected?

RIGHT, thanks for the hope rapid.  but I also know that the odds are substantially in my favor.  and I'm not gonna stop taking the pills out of fear of the side effects, etc.  I've already sought out professional assitance from the doc. and he's explained that in his experience, ppl who have obtained PEP within 24 hours have NOT gotten infected after very very high risk exposures..so that makes me feel good..but yea, thanks for the comment.

scared,

No, I didn't see the post from your "friend" until you mentioned and I looked for it.

To be honest, I'm not convinced. I can see you are just posting from a different location at the same university.

There shouldn't be a huge problem here - if your friend (and I'm using that term loosely) doesn't post here anymore. We've done all we can for him here. He's hiv negative.

Please understand that I am only giving you the benefit of the doubt - and there is huge doubt in my mind at the moment. I'll be keeping a close eye on you.

If you want information on the drugs you are taking, click on the drugs link in the upper left hand corner of any forum page.

Title: Questions. Do I have to wait another month? PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
Post by: scareddude21 on March 22, 2007, 05:11:54 pm
Well, here’s an update.  I purchased a Home HIV
testing kit and collected blood samples from my
finger, 3 months after the exposure.  I tested
negative.

1.  Should I assume I’m negative?
2.  Should I wait an additional month since I took PEP for a month (making the window period 4 months in total)?
3. Should I wait 6 months?

You should accept your negative and move on.

Congrats on that happy test result.

However, Scared, I disagree with Hunter on this one. The standard recommendation is to test at 13 weeks AFTER the completion of PEP. It is NOT necessary to re-test at 6 months.

From what you have described of the incident which started your concern I would still expect you to test negative again. But HIV status is never something to guess about. After having gone through PEP it doesn't make sense to me to leave any doubts about your status.

So re-test in a month from your latest test and collect what I expect will be another negative result.

Cheers,

Okay so today Thursday April 12th I took a 20 min
Rapid HIV orasure test (they take oral samples to see
if you have HIV antibodies) and it came out NEGATIVE.
It has been 4 months since my exposure from a known
source, and 3 months since the conclusion of PEP.  Can
i FINALLY rest assured that I am HIV-NEG.  the only
reason why I ask is simply because I asked one of the
"experts" on "thebody.com" and he basically said that
the guidelines suggest a 6 month conclusive test
following exposure from a source that is significant
to warrant PEP.

Is he just being anal?

Mostly everyone else says 3 months is conclusive and
the CDC website says 97% of people test positive after
3 months.

Please send me some comments..Im trying to put this
whole situation behind me.

scared,

Three months is sufficient in your case. You ARE hiv negative.

For an explanation of the PEP thing, check out this thread in the CSI forum:

http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=9056.0

The six month testing is only used for occupational exposures. It is ultraconservative and remains in place as a "cover your ass" policy and is tied up with health and safety regs. It does NOT apply in your (or any other) sexual exposure case.

You ARE hiv negative. Please ensure condoms are being used for anal (or vaginal) intercourse in future and you will stay that way.
