On the Down Slide
« on: July 10, 2007, 08:32:30 pm »
Earlier this afternoon, my doctor told me that I have a contagious form of pneumonia, but that it was not PCP. High fevers running over a 100 everynight with chills from being soaking wet is awful. When I asked if I should be admitted to the hospital, my doctor told me I was beyond that point.  ???

After a breathing treatment at the clinic and the clinic staff assigned to me were wearing breathing mask when in the exam room. My body weight in just 9 days, dropped 17 pounds. Of course, I asked my doctor if Wasting was setting in as it did in 2001 when I lost 170 pounds within 9 weeks, after being diagnosed with AIDS with a CD4 of 0 and a Viral Load over 1.2 million.

So, instead of the hospital, I was prescribed 4 very, very strong antibiotics, of which have already started the diarrhea, to stay home away from others.  :'(

Hopefully, I will be rid of these horrible symptoms soon.

Hi

Sounds like you have what is called walking pneumonia, and the reason they didn't sign you in at the hospital is because it's not considered serious enough to be admitted, but it's still a bloody awful thing to have and to deal with..the anit-biotics should really help.

Walking pneumonia can be contagious for up to 3 weeks if treatment is not started straight away..those living in close contact with you would be most at risk.

I have no words of wisdom regarding the weight loss..weight loss can be due to a number of things going on with you at the moment.

I hope the meds start to work soon, let us know how you get on.

Hugs

I was in the ICU for 15 days with pneumonia not PCP and then I had to say another 15 days in a pvt room. The shitty thing about it I caught it in the hospital. It took me over a year to recoup. I feel for you.

Hope you're on the mend and that the anti-biotics don't wreak too much intestinal damage.

Sometime ago I had this feeling that I had a very tight vest on -- only I wasn't wearing a vest. Unexpected diagnosis: walking pneumonia. That was a shock. And here I still am years later and I've been successfully di-vested.

Cheers,

For the diarrhea, eat yogurt with live cultures daily to help re-populate the intestinal flora which may have been killed by antibiotics.  Also, get plenty of whole grains and fiber in your diet to help absorb liquid and bind your stool.

Well, it's the day after my doctor's visit and I woke up with a temperature of 100.3 and the first stop out of bed was to the toilet, darn hate having diarrhea. Another night of sweating and waking up to a soaked pillowcase and more coughing.

My friend brought my mail to me since I have been unable to for the past week, only to find a letter of my ex, with two money orders for $25 each with another excuse why he couldn't pay everything he owed me.

I am going to write a letter to him addressed to his mother, with the two money orders informing him once again, he cannot stay here, period.

I can tell this latest illness episode is going to take awhile to get over, I was hoping it would be gone by Friday, but now, I don't think so.

I am feeling much better this afternoon thank god. For the first time in 2 weeks, I am able to pass gas without the diarrhea. Plan on taking all the antibiotics my doctor prescribed Tuesday.

I haven't had any fever today, boy that's a miracle I never thought would happen.  :)

I also had my first full course meal earlier that my case manager from my ASO brought me.  ;D

I still have alittle coughing, but not as bad as it has been.

I had walking pneumonia when I found out I was positive and the doctor gave me a script for Bactrin..its a cheap antibiotic but kicked the pneumonia in a week and he also said that since it was really good with this problem and no problem with becoming inmune to it working that I could stay on it as a prophalactic if I wanted to.  Imodium is good for diarrhea and you can take it up to four times per day.   Good luck and lets hope it doesnt revisit you again.

I am feeling much better today, the fever is gone, haven't smoked a cigarette in 11 days now, but the runny stools are still at it, probably because of the antibiotics (zpac).

I had a great full course lunch today and it looks like I am on the road to a full recovery.  :)

Although, the wheezing is noticeable, but several friends said that might take a couple more weeks to get rid of.  ::)

How times flies, this month seems to have gone by rather quickly. Being that was not in the best mood to be around, nor enjoyed the arrogant, being talked to as if a child type personality nurses, of several speciality clinics.

I can now say that although, I may have to pass on the Boston Marathon, I am feeling much better and have completely stopped smoking. :)

I got my lab results today (Friday) and my doctor told me that my CD4 dropped below 200 to 189 (11%) and the viral load rose from undetectable to 2800. She, my doctor ordered a genome type test which I did lab before leaving the clinic this afternoon.

I had a great dinner earlier at Furr's Cafeteria, 4 TBone sSteaks (medium well), 3 bowls of sliced fruit (bananas, peaches, strawberries), bowl of fried okra, large bowl of boiled cabbage :-[, bowl of yams, large bowl of green string beans, a slice of pumpkin pie and 3 glasses of sweet tea.

Being able to eat large meals again and not be worried about diarrhea is just wonderful.

I see we have a happy man in the house!  I enjoy a good steak myself, but I can't possibly eat more than one.  I try and have one rib eye each week, as it's my preferred cut.  All about a diverse marblization of the fat.

When I had a wasting spell about 5 years ago they put me on something for my appetite and I went out to the Hamptons for the weekend and devoured about six slices of apple pie at a friend's house for dinner.  They were just happy to see me eating.

Oh right... and they'd also loaded me up with that thing Mariol is made to approximate
