22years and Hiv positive
« on: June 14, 2015, 09:47:48 pm »
It's hard it really is. I can't believe this happened to me.
I recently got put on meds, and they are messing me up.
I feel very nauseous and I constantly want to puke all day every day.
I'm scared, is this how the rest of my life will be?

I need support, I would like to talk to people who are going through/went through what I am dealing with.
I need a friend now more than ever  :'(

I read your other posts.

A diagnosis is often a huge blow.

Are you in the USA?  Have you gone to get some professional advice and assistance about affording health care generally and HIV treatment specifically?  I know the finances are weighing on you.

What combo are you on, please.

No usually you will not feel sick from the ART treatment for very long.  But yes it depends on your combo.

What are you doing to destress, generally?

Yes I am from Texas
And currently I am on a combo of Tivicay and Truvada
And well I've gotten help from a local aids organization
They are helping me with the meds

But lately for the past few days I have literally just been in bed
I don't have the drive or energy to get up and do stuff
Like I said I feel super nauseous and I often find myself puking
It's also hard eating as my body doesn't want to eat at all

Talk to your doctor or specialist about the nausea. They can perscribe anti-nausea medication until time makes those go away (and they usually do).

The lack of energy and drive could be related to the nausea and vomiting but it could also mean depression, which is a normal reaction by many people after diagnosis. Tell your doctor and specialist about this too, or even the AIDS organization helping you. They will be able to help.

Howdy!
I am newly diagnosed and from Texas as well.  I started Stribild two weeks ago and the side effects sucked for a few days and then they went away.  The first day when I would eat it felt like someone punched me in the gut.  That is gone now!

If you can talk to you clinic about the side effects and they will probably give you meds to counter the nausea, but if that's not possible there is always pot.  This has been very helpful in reducing nausea from medications.

Please keep us updated to how you are doing and feel free to pm me or look for me in here anytime!  I hope you get to feeling better!

Welcome to the forums Love ! The vast majority of people adjust very quickly to meds if they suffer any side effects at all but keep in mind if this combo isn't the right one for you there are many more to try, you are going to be OK. Give it a few weeks if you can and let your doctor know you are feeling sick ASAP.

Hey.  That's the pits!  While I'm much older...my diagnosis is a pisser as I just came out 10 years ago.  Remember though you can live a very productive life and the meds will keep us going for a LONG time to come.

I haven't gotten help from the VA for my meds yet (diagnosed two months ago) so I'm going to a civilian doctor to get started.

I can only say to hang in there.  If things haven't improved within two weeks of your starting the meds I'd suggest getting back to your doctor and see if you're on the correct ones.

Good Luck

It's hard, every day seems like a struggle right now
Like I said the meds have me feeling nauseous
I haven't really been able to eat correctly and it's bad cause I lost weight
I am at 96lbs at the moment :(
I am trying to eat tho but it seems like my body just doesn't want to or I will throw up what I ate

I appreciate all your kind words, they mean a lot
Especially right now, I could use all the support and friendship

Hope everyone is doing well :)

Have you contacted your doctor about the lost of weight and the nausea? The are simple medications that can help and probably greatly improve your quality of life right now. It will also help you eat.

What titik said.
You must get some medicine to calm your stomach and cut nausea.

I want to confirm something. Do you know that you are on good medicine, and the vast majority of people on your combo are not living with nausea and a sick feeling?

Do you know that most people these days, in similar circumstances as you, and on the latest combos, don't have many side effects, and sometimes none?

I want to confirm that you are not worrying about old news, about the way it used to be.  In a short time, you should be "business as usual" and if this combo is not correct, you will find the right one.

You must not feel fatalistic about this and you must trust the treatment/medicine to do a great job and mostly in the background. You will feel normal soon enough.

Diagnosis can be a shock. If it comes with depression and a fatalistic belief, it can make someone feel sick.

Did your doctor tell you that you are going to be fine. And that you are going to have normal, long life, and not full of sickness?  He or she should tell you that.

I will tell you that!
