Strip club
« on: September 10, 2008, 11:24:34 am »
Hello!
Last Saturday, I was at a strip club down in Mexico, and at first i just got a lap dance. Later on, i got a BJ, and then we had intercourse which lasted about 30 seconds. I didn't cum or anything, and had a condom on. My question is, what are the possibilities of getting HIV? I ask this because i've been feeling kind of weird and paranoid. What should i do? ???

See your doctor if you don't feel well. You didn't have a risk of contracting HIV.

Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission. Use one everytime you have intercourse and you will be well protected.

Neither getting a blowjob or anything else you mentioned are risks for HIV transmission. However, other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV, so if you are sexually active we recommend that having a full STD panel done at least once a year is a good idea.

This time you have no cause for further concern about HIV.

Thank you for your advice, i've been very paranoid these last couple of days. I thinks thats why i feel kinda sick my mouth and throat feel soar. I hope its because of being so stressed out, but i'll probably go get tested today for STD. I've had four sexual partener within that last 4 years is that being sexually active? With 3 of them i've only been with 1 time each and the other about 4 times.

No, I wouldn't consider that to be very sexually active. Stress can definitely lower your immune system and make you prey to colds, sore throats, etc. Getting the STDs checked out should relieve your concerns about that issue.

wondering,

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

It would be a good idea to get a full sexual health screening - not because I think you'll be positive for anything, but because it's what responsible adults do. You're not that active, but you have had sex and I take it you've never tested for anything. Go test and make sure you use condoms with ANYONE. This way you won't have to worry about hiv.

You can test NOW for a conclusive hiv test as nothing you did with the stripper was a risk.

If you had a real risk then yes, you would have to wait three months from the date of the most recent risky/unprotected incident. But you did not have a real risk. So testing is not even necessary in relation to the incident you discussed.

Go ahead and get tested for HV if you must for peace of mind. It's a waste of money and resources.

wondering,

As your strip club incident in NO WAY put you at risk for hiv infection, you are not in a window period. You can test now for hiv.

We're not saying you should test because you've had a risk, we're saying you should test because you've been sexually active in your life and routine testing is what EVERY sexually active adult should be doing. If everyone got tested at least yearly (aside from those who are strictly monogamous and have already been tested) we'd start making progress in decreasing new infections.

Look at it this way. You go to the dentist for routine check-ups even if you don't think you've got a cavity. You should also have routine sexual health check-ups. It's your health, it's up to you.

Once again, NOTHING you did at the strip club put you at risk for hiv. Keep using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Got cheked for everything today, i told the lady what had happend and she said even though i used a condom i still have a 10% chance of getting HIV, then i told her well i've gotten advice from people who know there stuff and they said what i did was not risky so i feel confident. But right now i have a fever so ill just have to wait for the results. Once again thank you for the advice.

That woman you spoke with needs to take a course in HIV 101. You were not at 10% risk as long as you had the condom on properly and it didn't break. And if it  had broken you would have known it because it ends up looking like a fringed hula hoop on your penis.

Your negative on the test, based on what you have reported, is a slam dunk.

Cheers,
