Vaginal fluid + wound

Hello, I'm really worried, I had a protected sex with a sex worker.

I remember before leaving the shower to the bed, I have scratched the skin which is really near to MR.happy, and blood came out, from the scratching. When I looked at the "wound"(from where the blood came out) I saw that I have pulled out a FEW hairs which were under my skin, and that made my skin bled..

I have a few questions

1. What are the risks of getting HIV if a Vaginal fluid comes in direct contact with an open wound?

2. What are the risk of HIV if SHE also had some sort of wound and it bled, and that wound came in direct contact with my wound

Azgalogar,

You did not have a risk of contracting HIV.  HIV is very fragile and becomes non-infectious when exposed to oxygen.

The risk factors for HIV are ...

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth
Very specific healthcare situations.

Use condoms for vaginal and anal sex consistently and correctly and you will avoid HIV infection, it is that simple.

As I told you, you did not have a risk.  No matter the source, once HIV is exposed to oxygen, it is rendered harmless.  Even if she had an open wound, the blood would be exposed to the air and there would be no risk of infection.

Lets say it wasn't a wound but a bleeding cut which have penetrated my skin, what are the risk of Vaginal fluid infecting me then?

Sorry but I'm sick worried!! I'm a Combat Medic and I know a thing or two about infections.. that is why I'm so worried! Please answer me!

I understand your anxiety but Moderator Joe was correct , you never had a risk .

No matter how you slice it no risk means no HIV . I assure you we read your concern so fear not that we missed a single word that will change things    .

Hi there

I can't really say any more to ease your worries that Jeff and Joe haven't already said, except maybe to tell you that a wound, cut or scratch is normally something that opens up the top layer of skin, and can bleed a lot and this is where the worry normally comes into play but is not classed as a risk.

Please rest assured that when we talk about wounds, cuts etc, etc what we are talking about injuries that penetrate all 3 layers of skin, in other words very deep open bleeding wound, the kind of thing you would see with a sever stab wound, or an open site in an operation theatre, we are talking big and open here.

Only then will infected blood or infected fluids be able to get it the blood stream, this did not happen in your case and all the advise Jeff and Joe have given you is the advise of experts, so take their expert advise and move on, but remember condoms at all times if you are sexually active...no exceptions.
