Title: Condom broke off with tip intact
Post by: tsbmsg on August 27, 2013, 09:17:32 am
Hi guys, would appreciate some advice here. I just had protected sex with a transexual escort a few hours ago. After I came and was pulling out, we realized the condom had just broken off. She hurriedly retrieved it and we both saw that the entire condom was intact with all my cum still deposited in the tip. What should I make of this and do I need to start on PEP straight away?

Hi Tsb . The fact that your semen was inside the intact condom suggest that you slid out of the condom as you withdrew from her vagina . You say it broke off and then go on to say it was intact ? , it would be one or the other .

Either way PEP is usually not recommended for a condom break for the insertive partner (you) . If you did have a brief moment where you were in her without a condom its on the lower end of a risk and condom breaks rarely lead to an HIV infection .

Testing for HIV and other STD's are a good idea for all sexually active people  . If you slid out of the condom but were covered during intercourse you didn't have a risk , if you are unsure you can test at 6 weeks past the event and again at 3 months to confirm the results . I would expect a negative result .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Hi Jeff, thanks. Sorry I wasn't clear enough, only the ring was intact around my penis when I pulled out. The rest of the condom was inside her anus but fully intact with my semen still in the reservoir tip. There was no spillage in her so I assume it broke off after I came.

I do test regularly for HIV and STDs so my only worry is that this being my first condom break encounter and I might have been exposed no matter how briefly. And since it happened just a few hours ago I wanted to know if PEP is a necessary precaution for me?

I see , PEP inst recommended for condom breaks . The other moderators and myself have not seen a case where a broken condom led to an infection , its rare .... so I personally would not put myself through PEP .

I would continue on with your regular sexual health checkups and test at the appropriate time just to cautious . As I stated earlier you can expect a negative result when you test at 6 weeks past the incident and again at 3 months .
