Exciting News! Wanted to share!
« on: April 09, 2008, 01:29:51 pm »
As some of you know I've been positive for 5 years now.  Two years ago I decided that I wanted to turn a negative into a positive and started working on the requirements to go to nursing school.  HIV has brought forth the desire to help those in need.  Well here it is, two years later and guess what.  I graduate from nursing school in 19 days!!!  I refuse to let anyone tell me I can't do something because I'm HIV+ and for the first time since testing poz I believe that!  I have just accepted a position at the Mayo Clinic in the Medical ICU, the position I dreamed of my last semester of school.  I hope that everyone here is able to achieve some of their goals and I'm here for each and everyone of you if you ever need a shoulder to cry on or some support in achieving these goals.  I know I don't come here much, but that's mostly because of my living situation.  I live at home with my parents because of school and they don't know about my status.  Anywho, I just wanted to share with you all and hope it helps motivate those with dreams!

I told you before how much we need nurses, and now we have one more!  Congratulations! If you ever want to work in Austin, let me know, because I am the quirky-but-lovable-unofficial-something at my facility, and especially tight with the critical care folks here.

Thank you all for your kind words!  I'm very excited and can't wait to start my new job.  This whole nursing school experience has really given me a new outlook on life.  I just hope that I can help make a difference in peoples lives.  I plan on being around for a very long time and this is just the beginning.

Thank you all so much.  It is my goal to ensure that HIV positive patients receive the same care as their negative counterparts.  There is even an HIV certification exam which I'm planning to take this summer.
