My pain management doctor does drug testing every now and then and I really don't have a problem with it myself .

I said nothing to you to that could remotely be considered offensive so I'm puzzled by your response .

Was he prescribing you a CNS depressant medication?  I know doctors may be concerned if a patient is using street narcotics and possible dangerous interactions with antidepressants.  Either way, it seems strange that he would do that without consent.

I assume you are talking about your HIV doc.  I have never been tested for drugs at my HIV doc.  I have at my pain doc.  I have heard of patients being prescribed pain meds by their HIV doc, at my clinic, and they do get tested for drugs.  Barring that, I am puzzled why they would do it.  I doubt cancer patients are tested.

Of course, many states have written laws, that if you get any medical services for free or reduced cost, they can test for drugs.  But, you didn't say, whether you get any free or subsided care.  I still think it is a bad way to start a patient/doc relationship.

Amen!@ted-Glad u understand where im coming from

I went to ther office like a trooper..Well dressed, smelling good..But my bad boy face is there no matter what {hell i was born with it}!
And this whole time this doctor went on to get deep onto my personal life with other questions i wont discuss that didnt have nothing to do with the treatment i was seeking!
I was honest enough to tell him,yes i have done drugs in the past ''but i care too much for my health now''...and the only thing i do is smoke bud..I was honest to the MAXX...ON THE FIRST VISIT! He wasnt prescribing nothing, yet he insinuated..''Oh tell me what you need me to prescribe you,i prescribe you anything!!'' Like waiting to see if i pick the bait and ask him for a VALIUM or who knows all this pills all this folks do..I was like ''I dont need anything''..the whole time this man was discriminating against me with a passive judgemental  attitude.....Now that i see the labs with all this type of drug tests i honestly feel humilliated...feel good they're neg...but that doesnt change the fact of his judgement....and how he wasnt trusting none of my words yet sounding ''sweet''

pd: Not getting free services-HIV doc-First time visit- {skeep}not getting antidepressants even tho i am somehow depressed..i refuse them

If he would had perform this tests later on as he treated me..I would not have been this frustrated about it..BUT THE FIRST TIME?? So you basically are not trusting a word im saying so why in the heck is he is asking while you trying to sound so ''helpful''...
THATS UNETHICAL AND WRONG

What you describe - sounds like the doc is a jerk and doesn't respect you.
So what's stopping you finding a better doc?  Its important to feel trust with one's doctor.

Firstly, I would respectfully ask your doctor why he's testing you.  If he has a legal duty I would say he is in the clear; if he didn't believe you when you said you don't use, then I'd say go and find yourself a new doc if possible.  You are going to be seeing a lot of whatever doctor you choose for your care (especially in the first couple months of this) and it will be much pleasant for you if you find a doctor that you feel comfortable with.

It is funny I just read something similar to the improper testing issue.
Is it getting crazier or is it just me?

"A family from southern California is suing the City of Coronado after their children were taken away for nearly a year because the father admitted to legally smoking medical marijuana."
