You can make calls for free to anyone in the world and even leave/send voicemail messages and have conference calls.

I do Cliff.
You can also do video calls on it.
Works pretty well, but best with high speed internet connections.

Thanks! Question:
When you talk on the phone, is there a lag or echo or is the quality almost as similar as making calls from a land-line phone?
-
I use skype Cliff. Generally speaking its better then say yahoo or msn for voice chat. There can be a little delay (depending on the network),but most of the time it really works well. I never experienced echo..
-
Cliff,
the calls are only free to other people who also have skype..otherwise you have to pay, although it is a bit cheaper than regular landline rates.
I found that the sound quality varied; some days it was really clear, just like a landline. Other days, for whatever reason, the line was terrible, lots of interference etc. But for a free call, i guess it might be worth sacrificing brilliant sound quality!

Yes, I do get an echo from time to time. And a lag ...yes, from time to time
But with high speed it happens rarely.

I don't have Sype, but I got to talk live to Herman a couple of mo. ago via my msn. I detected no echo, or feedback problems. It was really great to talk to Hermie.
If you have a mic. we could talk too.
I'm hoping to find an inexpensive cam, so I can use it when I talk to my other friend. :)

Hi Lisa, I do have a mic (it's probably not a good one since it's embedded in my laptop). We should choose an Aidsmeds (unofficial) endorsed talk feature and use it to conference call each other (and gossip). I like gossip.

Is is good with dial-up?
-
I have only used Skype with a friend and fellow Skype user in the UK. We both have good mics and speakers, but the sound wasn't pefect for sure. But hey, it's cheaper than a traditional phone call.

Hi Cliff
I use Skype all the time...it depends on where I'm calling whether or not I get echo or delay.
Canada..no echo..clear as a bell...when I spoke to Jaser same thing, no problems..with Markmt only a slight delay...UK has a slight delay sometimes but not all the time, but you can still have a great conversation...I use headphones and have video.
Over all it's a great way to talk to our friends..and the best part is, it's free.
Hugs

Robert, nothing's good with dial-up! Remember the commercials where this lady mentions using dial-up and everybody around her starts snickering? Seriously, I used/ tried something similar a few years ago with dial-up. Honestly, it sucked big time. There was lots of echos, broken words, etc. It sounded like a really bad cell phone call. Maybe Skype is better, but I don't see that it could be much better with the limited bandwith of dial-up.

i can say I don't really care for skype. It works ok, but I prefer yahoo. The benefit of skype really is that it is it's own platform and often more popular than individual messaging services like yahoo.
