Lymph nodes
« on: September 20, 2009, 11:14:18 am »
Are there lymph nodes near the ear, just outside the external canal?

I can feel a swollen ball near my ear.  It feels like a swollen lymph node.  My lymph nodes (particularly on my neck) have been swollen recently (along with daily night sweats), so I figured the virus must be raging a storm up in my nodes.

Yes, this can occur up near your ears, and night sweats can happen when they are swollen as far as I know.

hi cliff.

here is an illustration of lymph nodes in the head and neck.  Does that answser your question?

It looks like that one just might be close enough to make you think that.

You know, if they bother you enough, you could always start your meds.

Yeah, that diagram helps.  It looks like that's what it is.

Hey Cliff,  That node that feels like a ball in front of your ear is the preauricular node (I bet that's what Robert's digram would show if I could read it...know a good eye doc?)  It usually gets enlarged due to a site-specific infection/irritation.  Virus may be a-workin', but it could be something simpler, like an       ear/eye/tooth infection....  Hope everything else is well....

Hi Cliff. I have a permanently enlarged lymph gland that's tucked in behind my right ear lobe. Sometimes it's the size of a pea, other times (like today) it's just a tiny little bump, more like the size of a grain of uncooked pearl barley. And yes, my doc told me it's due to the virus and when it goes big, my virus is probably having a field day. The bastard. (my virus, not my doc!)

I thought about starting my own thread on this subject cause I didn't want to hijack your thread Cliff, so I hope you don't mind me asking.....

I keep looking at the diagram and am having trouble exacting the location of the lymph nodes in the mouth or jaw area.  The reason I ask is because I have had a pea size ball on the part that links the bottom of the tongue to bottom of your mouth.  It started shortly before my diagnosis and goes away and comes back.  Sometimes it's painful, but mainly just noticeable by feel.  When it gets really big you can see it, which of course never happens during my doctor visits so he can't see anything there.

Just wondering could that be a lymph node?  I worry about it sometimes, wondering if it's something more sinister like cancer.

Sorry again Cliff for the hijack.

hey all,
I don't know that i have much to add on lymph nodes, except to add to the chorus of us who've had swollen and tender nodes (at times) and night sweats in conjunction. Those were the major sx of my ARS. THe little ball under the front of your tongue is not a lymph node, if memory serves. It's a salivary gland. and they do change size rather frequently, and can get tender (and sometimes obstructed).
I do have a question, sorry if this is a hijack, i'm new at this... have other ppl dealt much with aphthous ulcers in the mouth as part of this? i've had them for several weeks now, on my tonsils, on the gums. Got a lidocaine Rx from the doc but i am wondering about other perhaps more natural, and helpful treatments.
thanks to all, and here's to our oral health!

Found the source of my problem.  Cliff's been sitting on an undiagnosed systemic bacterial infection for a while.  Being treated now and feel 1,000% better!!!  Lymph nodes back to normal.

This is actually very common. I've had this way before HIV infection. So it isn't as serious, but still worth checking out.

Nodes are funny.  I had one on my jawbone that swelled up just a bit so I could feel it.  It lasted for a few months then just disappeared.

He's probably not responding because this thread is fucking four years old and he's not on the forum very much these days. Why don't you try starting your own thread instead?

Thanks P!!  Yes, I didn't see his message and frankly when I saw this thread, I thought another Cliff had joined the forum!!!  BTW, I may be back to Philly in 2013, I'll be in touch closer to when I'm due to go there.

Colibr, I can't remember much about what this was, but I haven't been diagnosed with cancer so it wasn't that.  If you've had this problem for two years and your doctors are all over it, then I'd defer to their opinion.  I hope you get to the bottom of it soon.
