I'm also extremely constipated (but finally just squeezed out one turd with Willamina's name on it) and have developed an upper respiratory infection since early this morning, most likely due to all of the Gitanes I was forced to smoke in France.

Obviously God's retribution for breaking his eighth commandment. Oh and probably the other nine too.

On another note after I went to the Headhouse Square farmer's market yesterday morning (was up early then too) I ran into this monstrosity and lemme tell ya it was L.A.M.E.  I could only endure 10 minutes or so of it before escaping down a subway entrance with my bags of kale, apples and spiced poussin.

It's so strange, isn't it. The French Alsace is 10 fold more German than Germany itself. They understand no fun with their traditions:) It's  a cultural shock when You come from Berlin.

Are you talking to me? I flew to Lyon in the Rhône-Alpes region (metropolitan population of 2.2 million, second wealthiest city in France), and UNESCO World Heritage site of "Vieux Lyon". It's also long been known among French people as the capital of gastronomy, so there are many regional specialities to eat there that you will not find elsewhere, plus major wine producing areas on both the north and south sides of the city -- Beaujolais (over-rated) and Côtes du Rhône (some of the best reds). It's a very easy place to get around as it has an excellent, clean subway system as well as tramways.

Then I went for the weekend to Cassis, specifically to eat bouillabaisse -- basically a very expensive fish stew native to Provence -- great restaurant eating outside on a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.

Then we spent the next two days in Marseille which is the EU capital of culture for 2013 so the old port had been completely augmented with several modernist structures like this one.

Then I returned to Lyon where I spent the rest of the week -- I was staying with friends that I've known since I was 15 so it was like visiting extended family. We ate out some but also a lot at home as my friend is a very good cook. I took tons of pictures so I guess at some point I'll put them on flickr and provide the link, but I'm still tired from the trip so I'm not sure when that will happen.
