nervous! Please evaluate
« on: September 08, 2009, 03:47:18 pm »
Hello there,

First, I'd like to send my gratitude to you guys for creating such an informative, welcoming site. I'm writing to ask what potential risks I have exposed myself to the last year. I am a gay uncircumcised male. I recently came out of the closet this month and am having deep regrets about what I have done in the past year. I registered for an adult hookup site due to insecurity and shamefulness about my sexual orientation (gay). It is painful to write this but I met up with about 10-15 guys. I received receptive and insertive unprotected oral sex from all of them. For some, rimming and fingering did take place. I never allowed any of them to cum in my mouth, however, I  tasted pre cum from most of them. I've also been hooking up with this guy on occasion for a year now that I met at school. We participated in unprotected oral sex ( insertive and receptive) and I've bottomed with him several times (protected).

Additionally, I engaged in a threesome. Although we only had oral sex, I am concerned because one of the guys kept switching back and fourth between penises and am concerned the other guys cum touched or gotten inside my penis.

On several occasions I may have had small cuts in my moth from brushing my teeth, which is another reason I am concerned.

What worries me most is I was just diagnosed with Impetigo, a bacterial skin infection that is apparently common among HIV positive people. My doctor said it was kind of uncommon among adults which has me worried. It cleared up within 3 days with a cream and antibiotics. Should I be worried? I wasn't too worried about having HIV until diagnosed with this.

I am going to get tested but am extremely scarred. I am scarred that a year of shameful, selfish acts has left me HIV positive. It is hard for me to evaluate my own situation because I cannot sort my feelings of regret/paranoia with the probability of being infected.

Please help me evaluate my situation.

thanks

OK, first of all as far as HIV is concerned you are worrying needlessly. The only confirmed risks for sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected anal and vaginal intercourse. As long whoever is the insertive partner is wearing a condom during anal intercourse then you are well protected.

All of the other sexual stuff is strictly theoretical in terms of risk for HIV. We hear stories from time to time of someone saying they became infected through giving oral. Under careful scrutiniy they never hold up. Aside from everything else, your saliva contains over a dozen natural elements and proteins which are very effective in preventing the transmission of viable HIV.

However, other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV. So we recommend that anyone who is sexually active ought to at least once a year have a full STD panel done just to be sure.

What strikes me in what you have written is a lot of shame about your sexuality and your becoming active. It takes time -- like a lifetime -- to sort out what is right for yourself sexually. Particularly when first becoming sexually active there is a lot of confusion, shame, uncertainty and other feelings along with excitement. If you continue to be bothered about this then I suggest you see a counselor or other professional where you can talk things out in a safe setting.

Meantime  as far as HIV is concerned I don't see any cause for concern nor any need for testing.

Cheers.

Thanks,

One more question. I have a suspect that one of the people who gave me a blow job may have had torn, bleeding gums. His friend told me that he may have been suffering from a drug addiction. I didn't go down on him, but he went down on me for about 10 mins. Should I be concerned?

Another question, I heard that being intoxicated inhibits the enzymes that reduce the probability of HIV transmission. On many occasions I had been drinking before exchanging oral. Am I at risk?

It wouldn't have mattered if he is HIV+ and had dripping gums.

In the entire history of the epidemic no guy has ever been confirmed to have been infected through receiving a blowjob. It's safe to say you aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

Hello,

Thanks in advance for answers to my questions. Recently, I have been recieving oral sex from a friend (probably over 100 times) over the past year. He just found out he is hiv+. He does use meth on occasion, and  I know he has blown me with open sores. Please honestly let me know what my risk is. Im worried sick

I've merged your threads here. Please follow our rule and keep all of your entries in this same thread.

The fact that the guy who has given you many blowjobs is HIV+ and that you had open sores on your penis doesn't change the fact that getting a blowjob is not a risk for HIV transmission.

It doesn't matter what details you throw into the mix about getting a blowjob. In the entire history of the epidemic there has never been a single confirmed case of transmission to a guy receiving that very common sexual act. You aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

You are worrying needlessly. There's no need for testing nor for further concern on your part. Get on with your life.
