Links to youtube video don't work...
« on: January 04, 2007, 12:59:51 pm »
Since I began using Firefox I can't click on a youtube link without getting a bunch of source crap instead of the page (short sample below).  I can copy/paste a URL and view the video but can't click on it.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Boo

Hey Boo -

Do you use Zone Alarm by chance, if so, checkout this link and response # 7 - it looks like someone was having the same problem and fixed it by adjusting some settings in Zone Alarm.

http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10683

If it isn't ZA causing the problem, then maybe disabling whatever firewall you have and testing the link will at least tell you where the problem might be.

Good luck,

Kevin

Kevin,

When will you start charging for help desk usage?  That link contained the info I needed and I just loaded a youtube video (rather slowly...) and let it start.

Thanks!

Hey Boo -

No charge for you as the many times I have read a posting of yours that made me smile or laugh out loud is payment enough.  Glad it worked for you and wish I could come up with some more ideas on the IE problem...but there are so many possibilities.

I think going back to IE6 is a good idea, if for no other reason then to see if it crashes as well (hope not).  Sometimes, after uninstalling IE7 and rebooting you may see that IE6 is still there and won't have to reload it.

If you don't already have a source for IE6 here is a link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx

If that installs without crashing, then you might want to make sure you have an recent updates for it as I think this one came out in June and they released an update in November that is probably available off the same site somewhere.

Good Luck!  I will be waiting to here how your saga goes...it's kinda like a never ending story :)

Hey Kevin!

I didn't even need to use the IE6 link because I checked under Program Files/Internet Explorer and IE6 was still there (as I think you suggested before!).

I've been using IE6 for over 5 minutes now which is much better than what happened with 7.  The real test will come when I press the Post button because that is one cause of IE7's crashing.

Thanks again!

Rob
